Canon Challenges Selected Influencers to Push Their Boundaries of Photographic Expression with the New EOS M5 Digital Camera through a Game of “Tag” Via Social Media

MELVILLE, N.Y., November 15, 2016 – In celebration of the release of the new Canon EOS M5 Digital Camera, Canon U.S.A., Inc., a leader in digital imaging solutions, today announced the launch of the #TagYoureIt collaborative Instagram campaign. Actress and blogger Jamie Chung and 12 participating photographers, chosen because of their passion for sharing the world around them, will be faced with completing spontaneous photo challenges from now through the end of the year.

Created to celebrate the power of photography in social media, these photo challenges highlight the creativity and speed that can be achieved with the compact and portable EOS M5 Digital Camera. Throughout the campaign, Jamie and each participating photographer will be tagged and challenged by another influencer in the #TagYoureIt program to complete their photo challenge within 24-hours. The game of #TagYoureIt continues when the previous individual tags the next participant on Instagram.

“The EOS M5 Digital Camera is the perfect creative tool for the spontaneous nature of these photo challenges,” said Yuichi Ishizuka, president and COO, Canon U.S.A., Inc. “We hope that the photographic journey started by these influencers through #TagYoureIt lives on through their fans and followers who we hope are inspired by these photo challenges.” A sample #TagYoureIt challenge could include creating and capturing a sample outfit inspired by the year you were born or making something inedible look edible and delicious.

"I’m honored to kick off the #TagYoureIt campaign as it really resonates with how I challenge myself every day to see the world differently,” said Jamie Chung. “I love to have fun with my looks and no matter what bag I’m wearing, the Canon EOS M5 is a great camera to pack when shooting for my channel since it’s lightweight and compact but still powerful.” In addition to Jamie Chung, Canon #TagYoureIt participants are:

From Canon USA:

MELVILLE, N.Y., October 28, 2016 – Canon U.S.A. Inc., a leader in digital imaging solutions, is proud to announce that Academy Award winners Leonardo DiCaprio and Fisher Stevens chose Canon EOS Digital Cinema cameras and lenses, including the Cinema EOS C300 Mark II camera, for their new documentary Before the Flood. Directed by Stevens and produced by DiCaprio, the film presents a riveting account of the dramatic changes now occurring around the world due to climate change, as well as the actions individuals and society can take to help prevent catastrophic disruption on our planet. Before the Flood premieres on National Geographic Channel this Sunday, October 30th at 9 pm ET/8 pm CT in 171 countries and 45 languages. Coinciding with the television premiere, Before the Flood will also be released commercial free on a number of digital and streaming platforms around the world, including NatGeoTV.com and Nat Geo TV Apps.

The two filmmakers, known for their environmentally themed documentaries, joined forces for Before the Flood’s two-year production, which follows U.N. Messenger of Peace DiCaprio as he travels to five continents and the Arctic speaking to scientists, world leaders, activists and local residents to gain a deeper understanding of the complex issue of climate change and investigates concrete solutions to the most pressing environmental challenge of our time.

“Canon is honored to have been selected as the camera and lenses of choice in the creation of this documentary,” said Yuichi Ishizuka, president and COO, Canon U.S.A., Inc. “Viewers will see on Sunday, with the clarity of the imagery produced with Cinema EOS products, a compelling picture of the current environmental conditions around the world.” To capture the stunning visuals of the documentary, cinematographer Antonio Rossi relied on a mix of Canon EOS Digital Cinema cameras. He began production with the EOS C500 and EOS-1D C Digital Cinema Cameras, the latter often rigged to a handheld camera stabilizer. They shot portions of the documentary in RAW 4K using the EOS C500 camera in conjunction with an external recorder.

When the EOS C300 Mark II camera was introduced, the production adopted it as their new “A” camera. “The switch to the C300 Mark II camera was seamless and easy, and we were happy to have on-board 4K recording as well as extended color gamut options,” Rossi said. “Overall, we found that Canon Cinema EOS cameras were the perfect tools for this project, as they enabled us to shoot in a variety of configurations while maintaining a consistently beautiful look and image quality.” Before the Flood mixes interviews with some of the most influential world leaders, with chilling but beautiful footage from locations impacted by our changing global climate. Rossi and his team traveled north of the Arctic Circle to Greenland and to Canada’s Baffin Island to show the rapid ice melts, as well as to Sumatra to capture some palm oil farmers burning rain forest habitat, among other shooting locations.

Rossi primarily outfitted his cameras with the Canon CN-E 30-105mm T2.8 compact zoom lens and the CN-E 17-120mm T2.95-3.9 CINE-SERVO lens.

Before the Flood is vital viewing for anyone who has any doubts about humanity’s role in global climate change,” Rossi said. “Working with Fisher Stevens and Leonardo DiCaprio on the film was a magical and elucidating journey.”

The New Collaboration Will Promote Consumer Safety Around Intellectual Property (IP) Theft and Safety Concerns Related to Counterfeit Power Accessories

MELVILLE, N.Y., October 13, 2016 – Canon U.S.A., Inc., a leader in digital imaging solutions, today announced its collaboration with the National Crime Prevention Council (NCPC) to promote awareness around the safety risks of using counterfeit power accessories, such as batteries, chargers, and external flashes. The production and sale of counterfeit products is an issue that not only affects the consumer electronics industry, but can affect consumer safety as well. The launch of this collaboration is scheduled to coincide with Crime Prevention Month in October, and will continue through 2017.

Together with Canon U.S.A., NCPC will use its resources to provide educational tools to crime prevention practitioners, law enforcement officials, and educators who, in turn, can use those resources to teach their communities about the dangers of purchasing counterfeits. The awareness campaign will also include digital messaging directed to consumers and public service announcements as well as other videos featuring McGruff the Crime Dog.

Counterfeit items are illegal replicas of real products, designed to deceive and take advantage of the superior value of genuine merchandise. They are produced in a manner that is increasingly more difficult for average consumers to identify, which is why awareness and education efforts are so important. Furthermore, counterfeit power accessories can lead to potentially dangerous results. They typically do not contain important safety technologies and are not tested to meet industry safety standards. As a result, they may overheat, smoke, melt, ignite, or create power surges and electrical irregularities that may cause personal injury or property damage.

“The safety of our customers is of paramount importance,” said Yuichi Ishizuka, president and COO, Canon U.S.A., Inc. “We want to make sure our customers are aware of the dangers of counterfeit power accessories so they can avoid potential risks of hurting themselves or damaging their equipment.” “As counterfeiting of camera accessories continues to evolve, we want to make consumers aware of this risk so they can keep themselves and their equipment safe,” said Ann Harkins, president and CEO, NCPC. “Counterfeit products designed to look like genuine products from major camera manufacturers may cause damage to people and property.” NCPC is a private, nonprofit tax-exempt 501(c)(3) organization whose primary mission is to be the nation’s leader in helping people keep themselves, their families and their communities safe from crime.

Akana Partnered with The Groundlings Comedy Troupe to Build Confidence in Victims of Bullying Through Humor, as Documented on Canon EOS Rebel T6i DSLR Cameras

MELVILLE, N.Y., October 5, 2016 – Canon U.S.A., Inc., a leader in digital imaging solutions, is showcasing YouTube video creator and anti-bullying advocate Anna Akana as its latest Canon Rebel With A Cause. Since first sharing her personal story on YouTube after her sister’s suicide as a result of bullying, Akana has used comedy as her own form of therapy. Her ability to put a unique spin on typically uncomfortable topics led Canon to select her as a Rebel With A Cause, in honor of the 25th anniversary of the first EOS Rebel SLR camera. Anna’s cause focuses on using comedy to build confidence in youth that have been bullied, and the video of her cause, shot entirely on Canon EOS Rebel T6i DSLR cameras, can be seen here: http://Canon.us/ubcq.

Along with The Groundlings comedy troupe, Anna worked with bullied teenagers ranging in ages from 13 to 17 to teach them how to use the power of comedy to face their fears and confidently use their personal experiences as the basis for their own comedic material.

"I was able to find peace and tackle my own anxieties through comedy, so it was amazing to work with teenagers to show them that humor is far more powerful than words of hate,” said actress and filmmaker, Anna Akana. “I hope the video of our experience will inspire others to consider the impacts of bullying and help those who are bullied feel that they are not alone - and can overcome!” “According to the US Department of Health and Human Services, Cyberbullying Research Center, more than 85 percent of students in the United States have been bullied at school, online or via text, so we wanted to give Anna, a modern day rebel, a platform and a camera to socialize the power of her voice,” said Yuichi Ishizuka, president and COO, Canon U.S.A., Inc.

Child and Adolescent Psychiatrist, Jeff Sugar, MD, a Distinguished Fellow of the American Psychiatric Association, worked with the youth in this video to provide counsel throughout the experience. Tapping into Dr. Sugar’s expertise, Anna was able to help foster a supportive atmosphere while helping the teenagers involved overcome their bullying-focused experiences and come out on top…laughing. Once finished with the workshops, the teenagers got their chance at center stage for a stand-up routine in front of their families and friends.

In late 2015, Canon launched Rebel With A Cause, a campaign designed to profile modern day rebels who challenge convention in their own unique way, shown through the eye of a Canon EOS Rebel DSLR camera. With American Daredevil Nik Wallenda, the first and only person to walk a tightrope across Niagara Falls and the Grand Canyon, an unexpected group of people were encouraged to check items off of their personal bucket lists. In February 2016, Canon continued Rebel With A Cause, with its second iteration featuring GRAMMY winning producer Swizz Beatz. Aiming to showcase artistic talent that may have otherwise fallen under the radar of the art community through #TheUnknowns, Swizz worked to curate an art show for the world to see on the facades of museums in New York City, followed by a gallery event at Sotheby’s Auction House and an online auction. The campaign videos, both shot entirely on Canon EOS Rebel T6i DSLR cameras, can now be viewed here: http://canon.us/bkQln and here: http://canon.us/bsCZ2.

Concluding the year-long Canon "Rebel With A Cause" campaign, one lucky consumer winner was chosen from an online contest searching for the next great inspiration. Photographer Guinnevere Shuster, an advocate for homeless sheltered animals, was selected as the winner and Canon will help bring her cause to life with a documentary production created, similar to those of the previous Rebels with a Cause. Guinnevere has photographed over 7,000 shelter animals and continues to strive to help find animals a loving and lasting home.

The Canon W-E1 Wi-Fi Adapter Announcement stated that accessory would be available "early September 2016." Because a firmware update was necessary for compatible DSLRs to utilize the adapter, we expected a 7D Mark II firmware update would appear around the same time (which it did, September 8). But as September draws to a close, the W-E1 still hasn't shipped to preorder customers (myself [Sean] being one of them).

The lack of product availability begs a couple of questions, like...

  • What caused the W-E1's delayed release?
  • When can we expect the W-E1 to be available?

Unfortunately, there has been no official word from Canon pertaining to the delayed product availability. Therefore, we have no idea why the Wi-Fi adapter was not released at the beginning of September as scheduled. However, after numerous inquiries to various contacts over the past two weeks, I finally received word from two independent sources that the W-E1 would likely be available the last week of October (according to one source) or the first week of November (according to the other).

Regardless of whether the W-E1 is available at retailers the last week of October or the first week of November, all indications are that preorder customers will be waiting another month before Wi-Fi adapters land on their doorsteps.

B&H has the Canon W-E1 Wi-Fi Adapter available for preorder.

Canon HDTV field lenses were ready on the evening of August 5 bringing viewers worldwide approximately 80 percent and nationwide 100 percent of the images they saw on TV.

From Canon USA:

MELVILLE, N.Y., August 3, 2016 – Canon U.S.A., Inc., a leader in digital imaging solutions, will be bringing their service and support expertise to Brazil to help maximize the uptime and performance of its users' professional imaging equipment. From pro DSLR cameras and EF lenses to broadcast television lenses, Canon's award-winning service and support staff will be providing preventative maintenance and repairs to help professionals who have put their trust in Canon imaging equipment.

Canon's team of over 70 highly trained technicians and support staff will be in Brazil for nearly a month to support professional photographers and broadcasters, just as they do throughout the year. Canon Professional Services (CPS) is set to provide comprehensive equipment maintenance and repairs, extensive equipment loans and expert technical support.

"Canon is proud to offer professional photographers and broadcasters high quality image-making solutions that are thoughtfully designed and versatile so that they can capture sharp, clear, detailed images and video," said Elizabeth Pratt, director, Professional Client Development and Support, Canon U.S.A. "Knowing that iconic images will be captured, seen and shared by people around the world really drives Canon to provide professionals with not only high quality equipment but the customer support they need to help ensure they never miss a beat if anything happens to their equipment."

Canon EOS DSLR cameras and EF lenses are the camera and lenses of choice of a majority of the top U.S.-based news agencies and professional sports photographers.

The Associated Press will be using Canon cameras and lenses exclusively, including cameras which are integrated with advanced robotics systems. The robotic camera systems can be mounted both in the rafters high above a field of play and underwater in pools, all fully controlled remotely over a network. "High-speed and high-performing digital imaging solutions like the EOS-1D X Mark II camera and L-series EF lenses are key to our team's success," said Santiago Lyon, vice president and director of photography, Associated Press. "Canon provides innovative technology and world-class optics that give us the solutions we need to create compelling images."

A majority of Reuters photographers from around the world will be using Canon DSLR cameras and lenses and trust Canon products and award-winning support team to keep them up and running. "Photographing large sporting events for thousands of news outlets and an audience of billions requires meticulous planning and technical resilience. The staff and engineers from CPS help ensure that the Canon cameras used by the world's top sports photographers receive precision treatment that allows them to take pictures that capture key moments and illustrate the spirit of competition," said Kevin Coombs, editor-in-chief for Thomson Reuters.

The Canon EOS-1D X Mark II DSLR camera and ultra-wide zoom EF 11-24mm f/4L USM lens were selected to be used for Getty Images' new high-tech, remote-controlled underwater robotic system. The camera provides Getty Images with a fully networkable solution that features precise white balance, a blazing fast frame rate and impressive low-light capabilities, which make the camera ideal for capturing fast action. When combined with the durable and rugged EF 11-24mm f/4L USM lens, the system will allow Getty Images to capture images at extremely wide perspectives with incredible sharpness and minimal distortion from the center of the image to the periphery, all across the entire zoom range. "As the world's leading visual communications company, we believe that our world class sports photographers must have the most up-to-date photographic technology that empowers them to do their job, and to do it exceptionally well. Getty Images is using Canon's EOS-1D X Mark II cameras and EF 11-24mm f/4L USM lenses in a unique, remotely-controlled underwater camera system that gives us the flexibility to follow and capture action from beneath," said Ken Mainardis, vice president of Sport at Getty Images. "We recently used the new underwater system and the images were remarkable. We're looking forward to using our Canon gear to capture more fantastic underwater imagery."

"The European Pressphoto Agency (EPA) will have a photographic team of 40 capturing incredible moments. Months ago, EPA's entire U.S. contingent switched over to the Canon EOS System," explained Gernot Hensel, EPA's long-standing head of sports and deputy editor-in-chief. "The EPA team is comprised of colleagues from all over the world, and the majority of them will be using Canon equipment, including robotic systems, to capture the action."

Simon Bruty, an award-winning sports photographer and Canon Explorer of Light is one of the best sports photographers in the world. "As a professional photographer, I have to be able to capture every moment of the action because a hundredth of a second can mean the difference between capturing or missing the winning moment or race finish, and Canon cameras, like the new EOS-1D X Mark II, deliver the stunning image quality and speed I need while working," said Mr. Bruty. "The 14 frames per second that the EOS-1D X Mark II camera can capture, which enables over 12 seconds of continuous RAW shooting without buffering, means that I could shoot an entire 100 meter dash without taking my finger off of the shutter release. If I shot in JPEG mode and have a large enough memory card, I could do it for the entire 2+ hours of a marathon race!"

YouTube Personality and Actress Gave the Crowd at VidCon 2016 a Sneak Peek At What Makes Her a Rebel With A Cause

MELVILLE, N.Y., June 29, 2016 – Anna Akana and Canon U.S.A., Inc., together announced that Akana will become the latest personality featured in the "Rebel With A Cause" initiative, which celebrates 25 years since the introduction of Canon's first EOS Rebel SLR camera. Following in the footsteps of American daredevil Nik Wallenda and GRAMMY Award winning record producer Swizz Beatz, Akana, a strong proponent of anti-bullying and suicide prevention, will be featured in a video dedicated to her own unique cause, debuting in September.

"As someone who loves creating comedic content with a message, I'm excited to be partnering with Canon as their next Rebel With A Cause," said actress and filmmaker Anna Akana. "The cause I'm advocating is one that hits home for me, and I'm very passionate about creating awareness and effecting change however I can."

In 1990, the iconic "Image is Everything" campaign introduced the Canon EOS Rebel, an SLR camera born with a cause — to put the power of pro photography into the hands of the public and level the playing field forever. Twenty-five years later, Canon launched "Rebel With A Cause," embarking on a journey to follow modern day rebels who challenge convention in their own unique way, capturing their causes through the eye of a Canon EOS Rebel T6i DSLR camera. "Rebel With A Cause" invites people into their worlds to celebrate the imagery that makes their causes shine and motivate others to join their movements.

"Canon has been a leader in the industry for years and partnering with a content creator is something that just comes as a natural fit for our 'Rebel With A Cause' campaign," said Yuichi Ishizuka, president and COO, Canon U.S.A., Inc. "Anna embodies the Canon mentality of creating inspiring content and we're excited to share that passion with someone who is a positive role model for young creators today."

Canon will conclude the year-long "Rebel With A Cause" program in October with a consumer Rebel, whose cause will be chosen from the recently closed contest searching for the next great inspiration. In addition to a cash prize, the winner will have the opportunity to bring their cause to life with a documentary production, similar to those of the previous Rebels.

From Canon:

MELVILLE, N.Y., JUNE 1, 2016 – Canon U.S.A., Inc., a leader in digital imaging solutions, announced today its partnership with Emmy Award nominee Candace Cameron Bure, host of TV’s The View and star of the hit Netflix series Fuller House, in support of the Canon Little League Photo Contest powered by PIXMA Printers. As part of the "Picture Perfect Season” initiative that kicked off last month, Bure will be on hand at the Little League Baseball World Series in South Williamsport, PA, on August 21 to meet the winners and unveil the winning photos.

“As a mom and sports enthusiast, I’m a huge fan of activities that bring families together to create special memories,” said Bure. “I’m excited to join Canon and Little League in this celebration of family photos, and showcase the love of the game.”

Fans are encouraged to make the season last a lifetime by submitting some of their favorite photo moments to the Canon Little League Photo Contest. By submitting photos through June 30, fans will have the chance to win one of three trips to join Candace in South Williamsport, PA, and see their photos on display in the World of Little League Museum in the Richard “Hank” Bauer, Jr. Little League Photography Exhibit in the World Series Gallery presented by Easton Foundations.

“Canon is delighted to welcome Candace to this year’s Little League World Series, to join us as we encourage fans everywhere to capture and share quality memories of this exciting sporting event,” said Yuichi Ishizuka, president and COO, Canon U.S.A., Inc. “She is a great supporter who understands the power of the printed image and the importance of sharing those images with fans worldwide.”

The Canon Little League Photo Contest powered by PIXMA Printers focuses on three themes:

“We are so grateful to Canon USA, Inc. for putting together this truly inspirational event for our girls” said Neela Lockel, executive director for Girls Inc. of Long Island. “The team prepared a wonderful day that left the girls excited and thinking about their own futures.”

Approximately 30 young women ages 15-18 across Long Island attended this all-day event specially designed to bring young girls together. They were presented with opportunities to learn about Canon, be inspired by women in the workforce today and visualize their personal future career paths, perhaps one day in the technology sector with Canon.

“Canon follows a Kyosei philosophy, which means, all people, regardless of race, religion, or culture, harmoniously living and working together into the future”, said Christine Sedlacek, senior director of Digital Marketing Services Division, Canon U.S.A., Inc. “We are excited to have the opportunity to positively impact these young women and share our Kyosei philosophy in a tangible way within the local community.”

They also completed their own personal journey timelines outlining how far they have come to get where they are today. To close out the day, the girls printed out their journey timelines to bring home and leave by their workspace or pin to an inspiration board as an encouraging reminder.

Accessorize this Spring with the Canon Speedlite 600EX II-RT Flash and Canon EF-M 28mm f/3.5 Macro IS STM Lens with Built-in Macro Lites and Image Stabilizer

MELVILLE, N.Y., May 11, 2016 –Spring is all about having the right look and Canon U.S.A., Inc., a leader in digital imaging solutions, is giving photographers of all levels two new options that can improve their creativity and versatility; the Canon Speedlite 600EX II-RT flash and the Canon EF-M 28mm f/3.5 Macro IS STM lens.

Photographers looking to take rapid-fire flash images will appreciate the improved recycling time in the new Canon Speedlite-600EX II-RT flash. Those looking to explore the world of macro photography will appreciate the stylish compact look of the new Canon EF-M 28mm f/3.5 Macro IS STM lens, the first EF-M Macro Lens for the Canon EOS M Camera System, which features Image Stabilization and a pair of built-in miniature Macro Lites to enhance image quality during close-up photography.

The Canon Speedlite 600EX II-RT Flash Offers Improved Continuous Flash Firing and More
The Speedlite 600EX II-RT flash is compatible with most EOS cameras. It replaces Canon’s top-of-the-line Speedlite 600EX-RT, and improves continuous flash firing by approximately 1.1 to 1.5 times when using AA batteries and up to two times when adding the new optional Compact Battery Pack CP-E4N.

Additional Speedlite 600EX II-RT flash features include:

  • Zoom flash head covers wide focal length range of 20–200mm; maximum guide number is 197 ft./60m at ISO 100, making Speedlite 600EX II-RT flash the most powerful flash unit in the EOS system.
  • Wireless flash shooting support is available for both radio and optical transmission with compatible Canon Speedlites, offering users greater functional range when using flash.
  • Multiple flash system support allows control of up to five groups of compatible Canon Speedlites.
  • Dust- and water-resistant body for reliable operation in harsh environments.
  • Flash-readiness indicator on the display panel, simplified button and dial operation and variable manual flash output.
  • New, specially designed accessories supplied include a built-in bounce adapter, plus SCF-E3 hard-type color filter sets, and a soft case. The new Compact Battery Pack CP-E4N is available as an optional accessory for faster recycling time and more flashes per charge.
  • Illuminated dot matrix LCD panel for enhanced display information, including flash mode and usable distance ranges plus C.Fn (Custom Function) and P.Fn (Personal Function) settings.

First Macro Lens in the Canon EF-M lens series
Photographers looking for a compact, lightweight macro lens should look no further than the Canon EF-M 28mm f/3.5 Macro IS STM lens, the first Canon Macro Lens specifically designed for the EOS M Camera System.

The new lens features a pair of built-in miniature Macro Lite electronic flash units that illuminate close-up subjects as needed, helping to freeze movement, enhance color accuracy and provide a better sense of depth and dimension. Two curved flash units surround the front element of the lens, with the ability to illuminate both simultaneously, or one at a time. Users are also able to adjust the brightness of the Macro Lites between “bright” and “dim” settings.

The standard focusing range of the Canon EF-M 28mm f/3.5 Macro IS STM lens extends from infinity to life-size (1 time). Additionally, a Super Macro Mode allows shooting at even higher magnifications up to 1.2 times. This feature allows you to capture smaller details that really make your subjects stand out against the background.

Additional features of the Canon EF-M 28mm f/3.5 Macro IS STM lens include:

  • Hybrid IS, the same feature as found on Canon EF 100mm f/2.8L Macro IS USM Lens, helps reduce camera shake for enjoyable handheld photography.
  • Stepping motor (lead screw-type STM) helps provide smooth and quiet focusing operation when taking photos, and near-silence when shooting videos.
  • One UD lens and two aspherical lenses** help deliver outstanding image quality at all distance settings by reducing chromatic and spherical aberrations.
  • Angle of view similar to a 45mm standard lens (35mm equivalent) provides flexible image capture of various subjects and scenes at macro distances and beyond.
  • Tapered lens top shape makes it easy to capture high-quality images at close range without casting shadows.

The Canon Speedlite 600EX II-RT electronic flash unit is scheduled to be available through authorized Canon dealers in June 2016 for an estimated retail price of $579.99. Canon’s EF-M 28mm f/3.5 Macro IS STM lens is scheduled to be available through authorized Canon dealers in June for an estimated retail price of $299.99.

B&H has the Canon Speedlite 600EX II-RT, CP-E4N Compact Battery Pack and the EF-M 28mm f/3.5 Macro IS STM available for preorder.

Canon's CarePAK PLUS promotion – with protection from kids, pets, and life including accidental damage such as drops, spills, power surges and other unforeseen events – is coming back. The new promotion period will run from May 1, 2016 to July 31, 2016.

How do we know the promotion is coming? Yesterday Canon USA released a CarePAK PLUS promo video on their YouTube channel with the dates "05/01/16 - 07/31/2016" appearing at the end of it. However, after originally embedding that video into this post, its permission level was suddenly set to Private (and therefore unviewable).

So which products will be eligible for the CarePAK PLUS coverage? Well, we're not 100% sure yet (the marketing representative I spoke to at Canon did not have that information yet). Below you'll find the cameras and lenses which qualified for the previous CarePAK PLUS program, and it's probably a safe bet that they'll be covered in the new program as well. We assume the EOS-1D X Mark II and 80D will also be included in this promotion, but that's just speculation for now.

Previously Eligible Camera Bodies/Kits

Previously Eligible Lenses

In addition, lenses included with eligible body were covered. For example, if a customer purchased the Canon EOS 5D Mark III and EF 24-105mm f/4L IS USM Lens kit, the lens will was covered since it is included in the box with the body (also known as a “hard bundle”).

Using Canon Cameras and Lenses, Teams Shooting from the International Space Station Capture Breathtaking Images of Our Planet from a Vantage Point Few Get to See

MELVILLE, N.Y., April 14, 2016 – The future of 4K filmmaking is looking up — in fact, all the way to space. A Beautiful Planet, the latest 3D space documentary from acclaimed filmmaker Toni Myers and IMAX Entertainment, made in cooperation with NASA, will premiere in IMAX in New York on April 16 and was shot primarily in space using Canon cameras and lenses. The film will be shown to the public exclusively in IMAX and IMAX 3D theaters beginning April 29.

The Canon EOS C500 4K Digital Cinema Camera and EOS-1D C 4K cameras were transported from Earth to the International Space Station (ISS) in November 2014 via an unmanned supply ship, and were received by NASA astronaut Terry Virts, astronaut Samantha Cristoforetti from the European Space Agency and Cosmonaut Anton Shkaplerov. This was the first time that 4K cameras were brought aboard the space station for a commercial film project. During a six-month mission at the ISS, Virts, Cristoforetti and Shkaplerov worked closely with NASA astronauts Kjell Lindgren, Butch Wilmore, Scott Kelly, and Kimiya Yui of the Japan Aerospace Exploration Agency (JAXA) to take turns using Canon’s advanced digital cameras and lenses to film footage of lightning storms, the continents, volcanoes, coral reefs and bright city lights on Earth for the film. One of the film’s greatest and most dramatic highlights, the striking imagery of the Northern Lights--or the aurora borealis-- was captured by NASA astronaut Kjell Lindgren. These awe-inspiring images were previously unattainable in such stunning resolution.

The Canon EOS C500 4K (4096 x 2160-pixel) Digital Cinema Camera is capable of originating uncompressed RAW output for external recording to meet the demands of premium cinematic productions and other top-quality production markets. It features a Super 35mm, 8.85-megapixel CMOS image sensor, DIGIC DV III Image Processor and an expansive range of recording and output options specifically for 4K and 2K image acquisition. The compact, lightweight Canon EOS-1D C Digital SLR camera delivers outstanding video performance and provides video recording at 4K (4096 x 2160-pixel) or Full HD (1920 x 1080-pixel) resolution to support high-end motion picture, television production and other advanced imaging applications.

‘A Beautiful Planet’ joins Canon at NAB
A gallery of still images taken on the ISS with the Canon EOS-1D C camera and Canon lenses during the shooting of the film will be shown at the Canon booth # C4325 at the National Association of Broadcasters (NAB) trade show, April 18-21, 2016 in Las Vegas, NV. During NAB, the film’s Director of Photography, James Neihouse, ASC, will speak at Canon’s stage on the challenges and benefits of shooting in space. Joining him will be Marsha Ivins, a consultant on the film, former NASA astronaut, and a veteran of five space shuttle missions. Neihouse has worked on more than 30 IMAX films including Space Station 3D and Hubble 3D and trained more than 25 shuttle and space-station crews on the intricacies of large-format filmmaking.

The documentary, A Beautiful Planet was produced, written, and directed by Toni Myers, and is narrated by Academy Award-winning actress Jennifer Lawrence.

About A Beautiful Planet
A Beautiful Planet is a breathtaking portrait of Earth from space, providing a unique perspective and increased understanding of our planet and galaxy as never seen before. Made in cooperation with the National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA), the film features stunning footage of our magnificent blue planet — and the effects humanity has had on it over time — captured by the astronauts aboard the International Space Station (ISS). From space, Earth blazes at night with the electric intensity of human expansion — a direct visualization of our changing world. But it is within our power to protect the planet. As we continue to explore and gain knowledge of our galaxy, we also develop a deeper connection to the place we all call home. From IMAX Entertainment and Toni Myers — the acclaimed filmmaker behind celebrated IMAX documentaries Hubble 3D, and Space Station 3D — A Beautiful Planet presents an awe-inspiring glimpse of Earth and a hopeful look into the future of humanity.

New Lens Features 4K Optical Performance, Enhanced Servo Drive Unit, Image Stabilization* and Autofocus* Functions- Ideal for ENG, Documentary, and Budding Filmmakers

MELVILLE, N.Y., April 13, 2016 – Canon U.S.A., Inc., a leader in digital imaging solutions, is proud to announce today the new Compact-Servo 18-80mm Zoom Lens (model name CN-E18-80mm T4.4L IS KAS S), a compact and lightweight 4K-ready lens constructed for optimal mobility. A bridge between traditional Canon EF photography lenses and CN-E cinema lenses, the COMPACT-SERVO 18-80mm can be ideal for filmmakers and documentary shooters who want the control and quality of cinema optics with the lightweight, compact design and features of photography lenses. The first in a new class of Canon lenses, the COMPACT-SERVO 18-80mm Zoom Lens is a cinema-style lens that includes a newly developed servo drive unit as a standard feature. Additionally, the lens incorporates Image Stabilization* and Autofocus* functionality, two extremely useful features not commonly found in cinema lenses, but which are ubiquitous in photography lenses. The lens also provides high image quality that supports 4K image productions and was designed to be able to be utilized in a variety of shooting styles including, hand-held, shoulder mounted, and tripod mounted.

“The new COMPACT-SERVO 18-80mm Zoom Lens ushers in a new class of optics for Canon. Featuring the outstanding build-quality and excellent optical performance professionals have come to expect from Canon, this new lens provides videographers with an affordable and versatile option when stepping up from EF lenses,” said Yuichi Ishizuka, president and COO, Canon U.S.A., Inc. “We are excited about the new form factor this lens takes on and can’t wait to see how the imaging community utilizes it.”

Covering the commonly used focal length range of 18mm to 80mm, this new Zoom Lens combines the functionality of Canon EF lenses with the precision and cinematic look of Canon Cinema lenses. The new COMPACT-SERVO 18-80mm Zoom Lens is 4K-ready and features auto focus and optical image stabilization with compatible camera models only, resulting in high-resolution imagery, with the ability to assist filmmakers in capturing the shot they envisioned. Compatible with EF- mount Super 35mm large-format cameras, the lens maintains brightness across the entire focal range at T4.4 (equal to F4.0). For added convenience, videographers can control many of the features of the lens in a variety of ways through the EF-mount communication, including Dual Pixel CMOS AF, push auto iris, record start and stop and remote lens control via the camera with an optional remote control, compensation for chromatic aberration (when paired with the EOS C300 Mark II Cinema Camera), metadata acquisition, and selection of T-number display. The COMPACT-SERVO 18-80mm Zoom Lens features a nine-blade iris aperture diaphragm to help give footage a truly artistic and beautiful look and feel, providing the much desired “bokeh” effect in the out-of-focus areas. For improved operability, focus breathing has been greatly reduced due to the three group inner focusing system.

The lens comes equipped with a newly developed Servo Drive Unit, which provides seamless switching between servo and manual modes, allowing videographers motorized control of focus, zoom, and iris settings. The Servo Drive Unit is compatible with broadcast style industry-standard lens controllers including Canon’s ZSD-300D or FPD-400D. To further enhance ease-of-use for ENG and “run-and-gun” style shooters, Canon has developed an optional grip accessory specifically designed for the new lens, the ZSG-C10. The grip accessory connects to the camera through a 20-pin cable, allowing a variety of lens functions to be controlled from the grip, including zooming via a zoom rocker switch, one-shot AF and the starting and stopping of a recording. When the lens and grip are being used with the EOS C100 Mark II or EOS C300 Mark II Cinema Cameras, users will also have the ability to control the zoom and iris from the camera’s grip unit.

The Canon COMPACT-SERVO 18-80mm Zoom Lens and ZSG-C10 accessory grip are scheduled to be available later in 2016 for an estimated retail price of $5,500 and $499 respectively.**

In 2010, Canon announced a special Studio Version of its EOS 7D which allowed for the embedding of barcode details in its images' EXIF information via a specially modified WFT-E5A Wireless File Transmitter.

Although no official announcement has been made, it seems Canon has developed a similarly modified EOS 7D Mark II and has provided an overview of its capabilities when paired with a WFT-E7A. Here are couple of screenshots from the video above:

Canon EOS 7D Mark II Studio Version Overview 1

Canon EOS 7D Mark II Studio Version Overview 2

As you can see, the Studio Version of the 7D Mark II can be identified by a label on the battery door. Right now there is no indication whether or not previously-purchased WFT-E7s will have to be modified by a service center in order to enable compatability with the extra features available in the 7D II SV.

My guess is that Canon USA will release an official announcement about the specially modified EOS 7D Mark II in the not-so-distant future.

From Canon USA:

Join Canon USA Technical Advisor Mike Gurley as he gives an overview of the EOS 7D Mark II SV Studio Version with a barcode solution. He goes over key camera features and discusses how the camera can be used for different workflows in event photography. Mike also shows how to set up the camera to sync with a compatible barcode scanner.

From Canon USA:

MELVILLE, N.Y., March 7, 2016 – Canon U.S.A., Inc., a leader in digital imaging solutions, today announced the expansion of the imagePROGRAF PRO Series with four large format inkjet printers. The extension of the Series includes the 11-Color plus Chroma Optimizer 44-inch imagePROGRAF PRO-4000 and 24-inch imagePROGRAF PRO-2000, designed to provide spectacular image quality for the fine art and photographic markets, as well as the eight-color 60-inch imagePROGRAF PRO-6000S and 44-inch imagePROGRAF PRO-4000S, two affordably priced models to economically create eye-catching posters and vivid displays for the production signage industry.

Continuing to deliver output solutions for photographers who are “equally obsessed" with the printed image, the imagePROGRAF PRO-4000 and imagePROGRAF PRO-2000 are 11-color plus Chroma Optimizer printers delivering the quality demanded by the fine art community. Complementing Canon’s professional line of DSLR cameras not only in their appearance, but also in their ability to create industry-leading imagery, these new models ensure a level of stunning Canon image quality from input to output, known as “Crystal-fidelity.” Mirroring the imagePROGRAF PRO-1000, the 11-color models are also marked by the distinctive Canon red line, echoing the same red line found on Canon’s EF L-Series lenses.

“From the time a photo is taken, to the time it is reproduced in print, imaging professionals require output solutions that accurately preserve the detail and vibrancy of that moment,” said Toyotsugu Kuwamura, senior vice president and general manager, Business Imaging Solutions Group, Canon U.S.A., Inc. “The new imagePROGRAF PRO Series models not only deliver an impressive and well-appointed design equal to Canon’s EOS digital cameras, but are also equipped with advanced technology features to faithfully reproduce high-quality photos taken by Canon’s EOS digital cameras with outstanding image quality.”

Outstanding Image Quality
The LUCIA PRO 11-color plus Chroma Optimizer ink system provides exceptional image quality, allowing for increased color gamut, reduced bronzing, improved scratch resistance, greater image clarity, gloss uniformity and excellent shadow reproduction, as well as increased black optical density. Compared to previous models, the Series features a wider print head (1.28-inch wide) with anti-clogging technology, which improves efficiency as well as reduces cleaning cycles and prevents wasted ink. This newly developed print head allows for a more compact printer design as only one print head is installed in each PRO Series printer. Additionally, all models maintain high print quality with a multi-sensor that calibrates the printer, ensuring color consistency from the first print to the last. They also feature a redesigned high-precision mechanical platform, providing a uniform, rigid frame to reduce vibrations during printing and more accurate ink ejection. The models also feature effortless media feeding capabilities, allowing photographers to no longer have to worry about blemished prints due to fingerprints.

High Productivity
For increased versatility, a Multifunction Roll System comes standard in the 60-inch eight-color model and is an option for the 44-inch and 24-inch models in the Series, marking its first appearance in a 24-inch imagePROGRAF printer. When used as a dual roll, the Multifunction Roll System will enable users to load glossy media in one roll and matte media in the other to seamlessly print to both rolls without needing to switch media or black inks. The Multifunction Roll unit will intelligently send the job to the correct media, automating the process and providing increased ease of use. The roll can also act as a take-up unit with bi-directional rewind, ideal for long, uninterrupted print runs.

All four new models feature the L-COA PRO processing engine for high-precision image reproduction and high-speed processing of high resolution data. The Sub-Ink Tank feature loved by users of the imagePROGRAF Series has been carried over to these new models, helping to reduce downtime and minimize costs by automatically enabling ink tank replacement during printing. The eight-color models utilize the same new 12-channel print head but the key colors of C, M, Y and MBk are arranged symmetrically in a mirrored arrangement, helping to realize high-speed printing, as well as high-color density.

Ease of Use
These new imagePROGRAF PRO Series models include several enhancements for increased usability, including a redesigned 3.5-inch color LCD touch panel, direct USB drive print capabilities and mobile connectivity. Users can now print PDF and JPEG files directly from a USB thumb drive for fast and easy printing without the need for a computer. The 3.5-inch LCD will render a preview of the file to ensure users are printing the correct file. Additionally, Wi-Fi (IEEE 802.11b/g/n) capability allows for smooth and easy connection to wireless LAN in office environments.1

User-Friendly Software
Further enhancing the user experience with these new imagePROGRAF PRO printers is the intuitive software solution of Print Studio Pro. With a focus on quality and ease of use, Print Studio Pro is a plugin for Adobe Photoshop, Adobe Lightroom2 and Canon Digital Photo Professional software, to easily exports files directly to the printer.1 The Quick Utility Toolbox feature provides users with a portal to launch and control software from one central interface, and Accounting Manager is included to help photographers keep track of consumable costs such as ink and media, helping users to determine their overall printing expenses. Also included is Device Management Console, an administrative tool which provides users with the means to manage up to 50 imagePROGRAF PRO Series printers by monitoring activity such as error messages and printer information such as the execution status of calibrations, all from one location.

Availability
These imagePROGRAF PRO models are expected to be available in late spring of 2016. The imagePROGRAF PRO-4000 is available for an MSRP of $5,995 or $6,995 with the addition of the optional Multifunction Roll System. The imagePROGRAF PRO-2000 is available for an MSRP of $2,995, or $3,795 with the optional Multifunction Roll System. The imagePROGRAF PRO-6000S comes standard with the Multifunction Roll System at a Manufacturer’s Suggested Retail Price (MSRP) of $9,995. The imagePROGRAF PRO-4000S is available for an MSRP of $4,995, or $5,995 with the optional Multifunction Roll System. The previously announced PRO-1000 is available for an MSRP of $1,299.99.

From Canon USA:

Feb 9, 2016 – MELVILLE, N.Y. – On February 7th, the top sports photographers from across the country gathered in the San Francisco Bay Area to cover the Big Game between the teams from Carolina and Denver. With more than 70 percent of the photographers in the San Francisco stadium using Canon EOS DSLR cameras and EF lenses, Canon’s iconic white lenses filled the sidelines from the opening kickoff to the final whistle.

“Seeing such a large number of the country’s most talented sports photographers choosing Canon equipment to photograph the country’s biggest sporting event of the year is always such a humbling honor for Canon. Their iconic images of the game will be seen by millions of people around the world for years to come, and this drives Canon to ensure both our products and support live up to the requirements and expectations of our loyal customers,” said Yuichi Ishizuka, president and COO, Canon U.S.A., Inc.

Veteran sports photographers and Canon Explorers of Light Peter Read Miller and Damian Strohmeyer were on the sidelines using the brand-new EOS-1D X Mark II DSLR Camera, the first public use of the camera in the U.S. since being announced to the public on February 1. "The EOS-1D X Mark II is a marked improvement in file quality, and the performance was huge at higher ISO," said Strohmeyer. "This camera is a big step up!"

A full complement of friendly and knowledgeable staff from Canon Professional Services (CPS), a fixture at major sporting events throughout the year, were on site at the stadium for the entire weekend providing comprehensive equipment maintenance, extensive equipment loans and expert technical support to the major photo agencies and individual photographers covering the game. "The equipment loan from CPS really gave us some opportunities for our coverage we wouldn't have otherwise," said Carlos Avila Gonzalez, photo/video journalist for the San Francisco Chronicle. "When an event as large and globally renowned as this is in your area, you have to step up to deliver the kind of work that keeps readers and viewers engaged and constantly seeing your publication as the go-to source for visual content. Canon's help with equipment allowed us to provide that kind of coverage."

Canon Professional Services will be proudly attending to photographers at over 32 events this year including major sporting, auto racing, Hollywood, and political events throughout the year.

In addition to the lenses on the sideline, Canon’s line of HD broadcast lenses were also used extensively to help deliver the game to more than 110 million television viewers.

FAST, FORMIDABLE, AND 4K, ALL-IN-ONE CAMERA CANON U.S.A. INTRODUCES THE EOS-1D X MARK II PROFESSIONAL DIGITAL CAMERA

Delivering Precise and Reliable Performance with Versatility for Any Photo or Video Professional

MELVILLE, N.Y., February 1, 2016 – Rising to meet the rigorous and evolving demands of professional photographers and videographers, Canon U.S.A., Inc., a leader in digital imaging, is proud to announce the new EOS-1D X Mark II DSLR camera. With a new 20.2 megapixel 35mm Full Frame Canon CMOS sensor and Dual DIGIC 6+ Image Processors, the EOS-1D X Mark II professional digital camera delivers stunning image quality and speed. Combining the ability to capture high-resolution still images at speeds up to 14 frames per second as well as stunning high-definition video up-to-4K 60P featuring Canon’s proprietary Dual Pixel CMOS Autofocus (AF) technology, the Canon EOS-1D X Mark II camera becomes the ideal camera for any professional image creator.

The new flagship Canon EOS-1D X Mark II features several firsts for EOS cameras including:

  • Newly developed 20.2 megapixel 35mm Full Frame Canon CMOS sensor;
  • Continuous shooting speeds of up-to-14 frames per second (fps) with Auto Exposure (AE) and predictive AF for viewfinder shooting and up to 16 fps in Live View mode;
  • Dual DIGIC 6+ Image Processors that transfer image data at extremely high speed for extended bursts during continuous shooting – up-to-170 consecutive RAW images at 14 fps. When shooting JPEG images you’re only limited by memory card capacity;
  • Capable of shooting 4K 60P and Full HD 120P video with Dual Pixel CMOS AF;
  • Enhanced wireless functionality (with the optional accessory Wireless File Transmitter WFT-E8) that supports the new high-speed IEEE 802.11ac standard and the ability to easily transfer photos and videos to compatible smartphones using Canon’s Camera Connect app*;
  • Digital Lens Optimizer to help correct aberrations in-camera (a feature that previously required post-processing on an external computer);
  • Improved 61-point viewfinder AF with expanded coverage and all AF-points selectable and supported to a maximum aperture of f/8;
  • Improved AI Servo III+ predictive AF algorithm for better accuracy;
  • Continuous red illumination of all AF points within the camera’s Intelligent Viewfinder II.
  • Compatibility with both CF and CFast memory cards for optimal performance and versatility.

The Ultimate EOS Camera: Continuing a Legacy of High Speed and Performance
Building on the success of the Canon EOS-1D X professional digital camera, the Canon EOS-1D X Mark II camera is designed to deliver high-performance, speed, and image quality, with improved comfort for professional photographers. In addition to the new 20.2 megapixel full-frame CMOS sensor and Dual DIGIC 6+ Image Processors, the new EOS-1D X Mark II DSLR camera includes an improved 61-point High-Density Reticular AF II system with all AF points selectable by the user (and up to 41 cross-type points depending on the lens in use). The improved AF system includes expanded coverage that supports AF at maximum apertures up to f/8 with all 61 points for high precision autofocus even when using EF super-telephoto lenses with an EF extender. The camera also boasts excellent dynamic range and reduced color noise compared to its predecessor throughout its standard ISO speed range of 100 - 51,200. Expansion ISO speeds of 50, 102,400, 204,800 and 409,600 are also available. A first for the Canon EOS-1D series, this camera also features a 360,000-pixel RGB+IR metering sensor with enhanced precision and performance compared to its predecessor, improving facial recognition and tracking, as well as nature scenes. Additionally, the advanced AE system can detect and compensate for flickering light sources such as sodium vapor lamps that are often used in gymnasiums and swimming pools. When enabled, this anti-flicker system automatically adjusts shutter release timing to help reduce disparities in exposure and color especially during continuous burst shooting.

For filmmakers and photographers looking to do more than still photography alone with a DSLR camera and EF lenses, the EOS-1D X Mark II camera offers high resolution DCI 4K video at frame rates up-to-60p, with smooth movie recording to an in-camera CFast 2.0 memory card. An additional card slot supports standard CF memory cards up to UDMA 7. The built-in headphone jack supports real-time audio monitoring. Two additional EOS ‘firsts’ include 4K Frame Grab and 120p Full HD recording. The camera’s 4K Frame Grab function allows users to isolate a frame from recorded 4K video and create an 8.8 megapixel still JPEG image in-camera. When combined with the EOS-1D X Mark II’s high-sensitivity full-frame CMOS sensor, the new camera’s ability to record Full HD video at frame rates up to 120p will allow videographers to produce high quality slow motion video even in extremely low light. To make video shooting even more intuitive, the Canon EOS-1D X Mark II camera’s touch-screen LCD allows videographers to select the camera’s AF point before and during video recording with Dual Pixel CMOS AF, which provides responsive, accurate and quiet camcorder-like video autofocus to DSLRs.

“The innovations within Canon’s new EOS-1D X Mark II DSLR camera clearly set a new standard for professional cameras,” said Yuichi Ishizuka, president and COO, Canon U.S.A., Inc. “In developing the EOS-1D X Mark II camera, we looked to incorporate user-requested performance enhancements to bring professional photographers the ultimate EOS camera, a camera that has matured and been developed to meet their evolving needs.”

“Having f/8 capability on all 61 AF points is a tremendous benefit to wildlife photographers," noted nature photographer and Canon Explorer of Light Charles Glatzer. “In order to capture tight shots of animals without disturbing them, I frequently have to use very long lenses—sometimes with an extender attached, which further diminishes the aperture. The improved AF allows me to frame the shot exactly the way I envision it, without having to compromise.”

“This camera is a huge step forward,” remarked acclaimed photographer and Canon Explorer of Light Damian Strohmeyer. “Shooting sports in a gym at 8,000 ISO, it looked as good as 800 ISO from a generation or two ago. The images are tack-sharp, and the autofocus just doesn't miss. I've been amazed by what I've seen so far.”

“The autofocus was awesome,” agreed Peter Read Miller, sports photographer and Canon Explorer of Light. “The higher frame rate coupled with the speed of the CFast card was a definite advantage. It just never buffered out, even shooting RAW.”

The new EOS-1D X Mark II camera also offers a built-in GPS receiver with compass for precise geo-tagged information of latitude, longitude, elevation and direction. This is especially valuable to wildlife photographers and photojournalists who need to track their locations, as well as providing sports photographers the ability to sync a multiple-camera setup with extreme accuracy and precision. It is also possible to use the camera’s built-in GPS to automatically sync the camera’s time to the atomic clock, an invaluable feature to professionals. An improved grip also makes the camera easier for photographers to hold and maneuver while shooting. In response to feedback from professional EOS users, the AF points in the EOS-1D X Mark II camera’s Intelligent Viewfinder II can be illuminated in red for improved visibility, especially when shooting in dark locations. AF sensitivity in low light has been doubled from EV -2 to EV -3 at the center AF point when the camera is set to One-Shot AF, enabling the camera to autofocus in extremely dark shooting conditions such as a moonlit nightscape. Viewfinder AF coverage has also been increased for greater compositional flexibility.

As with all EOS-1D series cameras, the EOS-1D X Mark II’s rugged construction and magnesium alloy body is weather resistant. The camera also features improved controls and more in-camera image quality enhancements than ever before, including a Digital Lens Optimizer function offering high quality aberration correction which can now be achieved without an external computer. This feature makes it easier for professional photographers to deliver finished files to their clients, especially in situations when access to a personal computer is impractical or inconvenient.

The estimated retail price for the Canon EOS-1D X Mark II is $5,999 (MSRP) for the body or $6,299 for the Premium Kit which includes a 64 GB CFast memory card and card reader. The new camera is scheduled to begin shipping to authorized Canon USA dealers in April 2016. For more information and the full list of product specifications, visit: usa.canon.com/EOS1DXMarkII

Profiling Modern Day Rebels Including Daredevil Nik Wallenda and Music Producer Swizz Beatz, “Rebel With A Cause” Campaign Filmed Entirely with Canon EOS Rebel T6i DSLR Cameras

MELVILLE, N.Y. — Celebrating 25 years since the introduction of Canon’s first EOS Rebel SLR camera, Canon U.S.A., Inc., a leader in digital imaging solutions, is pleased to honor this milestone by introducing its new “Rebel With A Cause” campaign. In 1990, the iconic “Image is Everything” campaign introduced the Canon EOS Rebel, an SLR camera born with a cause — to put the power of pro photography into the hands of the public and level the playing field forever. 25 years later, Canon launches “Rebel With A Cause,” embarking on a journey to follow modern day rebels who challenge convention in their own unique way, capturing their causes through the eye of a Canon EOS Rebel DSLR. “Rebel With A Cause” will invite people into their worlds, celebrating the imagery that makes their causes shine and motivating others to join their movements.

The campaign kicks off today featuring American daredevil Nik Wallenda followed by GRAMMY Award winning record producer Swizz Beatz.

For the first video from the campaign, Nik Wallenda, best known as a member of The Flying Wallenda Family, and the first and only person to walk a tightrope across Niagara Falls and the Grand Canyon, encourages an unexpected group of people, senior citizens, to check items off of their personal bucket lists. After visiting a senior center in Sarasota, FL, the man who’s conquered every feat he’s ever dreamed of, sent one senior citizen into the sky and one to the racetrack to inspire them to finally conquer theirs. The campaign, shot entirely on Canon EOS Rebel T6i DSLR cameras, can now be viewed here: http://canon.us/bkQln .

“I’m honored to be selected as a Rebel with a Cause as part of Canon’s campaign, as I’ve spent my entire life pushing boundaries and encouraging others to do the same,” said Nik Wallenda. “Partnering with Canon to tell my story and continuing to pursue my mission to never give up, has been an incredibly rewarding experience, and I hope this inspires others to live their lives to the fullest.”

“Canon has always made it a priority to make what was once thought to be impossible possible, and it’s one of the reasons we created the EOS Rebel cameras,” said Yuichi Ishizuka, president and COO, Canon U.S.A., Inc. “The heart of this campaign is about showcasing modern day rebels entirely through the eyes of a Canon EOS Rebel camera, encouraging people to take their creativity to the next level and to tell their own unique stories.”

“Rebel With A Cause” will continue with hip-hop artist and multi-platinum record producer Swizz Beatz, who has recently become a major force in the art world. However, instead of focusing on his own art, he’s focused on finding the next great, unknown artist – and into 2016 with a range of high profile individuals each embracing their own cause. Every rebel has their own unique story, and the campaign will encourage everyone to find the rebels within themselves.

The Evolution of the Canon EOS Rebel Camera
Canon announced the first ever EOS Rebel SLR camera 25 years ago in August 1990, changing the game in the SLR camera category. At the time it was Canon’s smallest and lightest 35mm autofocus single-lens reflex (SLR) camera in the EOS line of autofocus SLRs. The EOS Rebel line has been continuously known to pack advanced features and imaging technologies into affordable high-quality consumer-level camera bodies. Through its first 14 years, Canon introduced 13 EOS Rebel film SLR models and in 2003, the Canon EOS Rebel DSLR was born, marking the beginning of the modern-day EOS Rebel DSLR camera. From 2003 to 2015, there have been 15 models in the EOS Rebel DSLR camera line including the latest models introduced this year featuring built-in Wi-Fi and NFC capability -- the EOS Rebel T6i and T6s DSLR cameras. The EOS Rebel camera line has been used by creative consumers to express themselves through still images for decades as well as Full HD video since the introduction of the EOS Rebel T1i in 2009. Also known for their compact size and superb feature set these cameras have enticed many consumers to make this their first entry into Canon’s EOS interchangeable lens camera family. All Canon EOS Rebel cameras are compatible with Canon’s entire line of EF and EF-S lenses. The sales success and longevity of the EOS Rebel camera line is why the cameras are a household name across generations making it one of the most popular lines in SLR cameras.

Environmental Sustainability Initiative Achieved Goal of Contributing to the Planting of 50,000 Trees in 2015

MELVILLE, N.Y., — As part of its ongoing commitment to environmental sustainability, Canon U.S.A., Inc., a leader in digital imaging solutions, is proud to announce that the Company’s partnership with the Arbor Day Foundation has helped contribute to the planting of 50,000 trees this year. The achievement is the latest result of Canon U.S.A.’s long-lasting support of the Arbor Day Foundation’s Community Tree Recovery Program, which helps to rebuild communities affected by natural disasters through the planting of trees.

Since 2009, Canon U.S.A.’s contributions to Arbor Day’s reforestation efforts and the Community Tree Recovery Program have helped in the planting of over 360,000 trees across national forests and communities that have been impacted by natural disasters.

“As a cornerstone of our corporate philosophy of Kyosei, Canon is a strong believer in community involvement,” said Junichi Yoshitake, senior vice president and general manager, Business Imaging Solutions Group, Canon U.S.A., Inc. “Through our partnership with the Arbor Day Foundation, we are proud to have achieved this goal in helping communities where natural disasters have struck.”

This year, the Community Tree Recovery Program has provided recovery support to 11 states across the nation, including New Jersey, Kentucky, Texas and Washington. Through the Canon Forest Program, which supports the Community Tree Recovery Program, Canon supported the planting of one tree for every eligible imageRUNNER ADVANCE multifunction system sold from April 1, 2015, up to the now-achieved goal of 50,000 trees planted. Various imageRUNNER ADVANCE multifunction systems have achieved outstanding Total Energy Consumption (TEC) ratings, received ENERGY STAR certifications, and have also received various EPEATi ratings, which is the global registry for greener electronics.

"We are thankful for the partnership with Canon as they help in the rebuild of communities across the country," said Dan Lambe, Arbor Day Foundation, president. "Planting trees is a powerfully inspiring experience that will help to bring hope and healing back to the good people affected by these natural disasters."

From Canon USA:

"The Rusted" is a Psychological Thriller Inspired by a College Student's Trailer Submission for the Project Imagination Contest

MELVILLE, N.Y., October 23, 2015 – Canon U.S.A., Inc., a leader in digital imaging solutions, debuts a new Hollywood short film, "The Rusted," as part of Canon's Project Imagination: The Trailer, a consumer contest helmed by Ron Howard who has championed Canon's Project Imagination creative experiment since 2011. Ron Howard and Josh Hutcherson ("The Hunger Games") chose one winning trailer created by Mark Mukherjee, a college student in Florida, as the inspirational foundation for "The Rusted," a psychological thriller written and directed by Kat Candler ("Hellion") starring Josh Hutcherson and Jena Malone ("The Hunger Games").

"The Rusted" is a film about a brother and sister's attempt to renovate their childhood home into a recording studio, but strange happenings force them to deal with memories from their past. The global premiere of the film took place via a livestream with AOL BUILD, giving consumers everywhere a chance to experience the film, and will now be available at imagination.usa.canon.com.

"I'm honored to continue this journey with Canon, seeking inspiration from those around us and urging everyone to tap into their creative souls and bring stories to life," said Ron Howard. "It's truly been a delight to collaborate with Josh Hutcherson who challenged himself to star in a role that was unlike any he has done to date."

"Working with Canon, Ron and Kat have given me a great creative outlet to flex my filmmaking muscles," said Josh Hutcherson. "I feel so fortunate to bring the vision of Mark's trailer to life and work alongside Jena to create this beautiful film. I'm excited for everyone to see it."

Francesca Silvestri and Kevin Chinoy of Freestyle Picture Company as well as Josh Hutcherson and Michelle Hutcherson produced the film.

Project Imagination: The Trailer contest launched in February 2015 and was open for submissions through April 29th. Based on the concept that anything in life can be a movie, and every movie starts with a trailer, Canon invited all consumers - even those who have never picked up a camera before - to turn everyday photos and video footage into a creative movie trailer with titles, Hollywood style voice-overs and epic soundtracks. Consumers of all skill levels were encouraged to create and submit trailers of their everyday moments using Canon's Trailer Editor tool. One winning trailer was then selected by Ron Howard and Josh Hutcherson.

From Canon USA:

New 17-inch Large Format Printer Can Produce Sharp Images and Astounding Image Clarity for Pro Photographers and Design Professionals

MELVILLE, N.Y., October 21, 2015 - Canon U.S.A., Inc., a leader in digital imaging solutions, today announced the imagePROGRAF PRO-1000 Professional Inkjet Printer, a 17-inch, large format solution packed with significant technological advancements, such as a new print head, new ink set and a new image processing engine, resulting in stunning image quality designed for photographers who are "equally obsessed" with the printed image.

This is the first in a new series of imagePROGRAF printers that are marked by the distinctive Canon red line across the body of the printer, echoing the same red line on Canon's EF L-Series lenses. This feature-rich professional printer complements Canon's professional line of DSLR cameras and lenses for an ideal pairing that can produce high-detail, high-quality images when printed on a variety of media, creating images that look as accurate printed as when they were captured.

"We designed a printer to give our customers incredible large-format image reproduction in a size that fits almost any home, studio, design and production departments, or in a classroom of photography students," said Yuichi Ishizuka, president and COO, Canon U.S.A., Inc. "Knowing how important fine details and precise colors are to professional users, this printer is designed so that the final output is exactly what they envisioned. The launch of the first printer in the new imagePROGRAF PRO Series of printers further illustrates the commitment Canon has to providing the imaging community with solutions that help deliver superb output true to a photographer's obsession."

New Print Head
Improving upon the specifications of the Canon PIXMA PRO-1 printer, the imagePROGRAF PRO-1000 printer features a 50 percent larger print head, which also expands the total number of nozzles to 18,432 for each of the 12 channels. The increased size of the print head helps produce faster print speeds†† while still maintaining high-resolution prints. This new print head design utilizes a sophisticated real-time ink ejection system which helps to maintain a consistent print head temperature allowing for consistent ink droplets to help limit clogs and reduce cleaning cycles and wasted ink. The new print head helps to further reduce the amount of wasted ink through anti-clogging technologies where ink ejection conditions are precisely checked with sensors, and if a clog is detected, another nozzle automatically provides backup.

New Inks
The new LUCIA PRO 11-color plus Chroma Optimizer ink system was designed specifically to meet the demands of the most critical photographer. An optimized resin-coating of each pigment allows for denser droplets to be applied to the media, resulting in an increased color gamut of up to 19 percent over the PIXMA PRO-1 printer. This dense ink-configuration also brings gloss uniformity for viewing conditions and image clarity that helps achieve anti-bronzing. The LUCIA PRO ink system also introduces an improved level of black density not only achieving deep, rich blacks but also helping to bring out incredibly fine shadow detail in the darker areas, creating works of art on fine art media. The imagePROGRAF PRO-1000 printer is designed to work seamlessly when changing media types, Photo Black and Matte Black inks have their own dedicated nozzles so no switching is necessary. Users can print on glossy media then fine art media with no worries, no changes, and no waste. The new ink system includes matte black, photo black, gray, photo gray, red, blue, magenta, photo magenta, cyan, photo cyan, yellow and Chroma Optimizer. The size of the ink tanks is 80ml per tank, allowing for less frequent refills and reduced cost per print.

New Processing Engine & Printer Architecture
Demonstrating a rich understanding of optimum balance stemming from its expertise in camera technology, Canon offers precise placement of ink droplets ideal for vivid print results. The new processing engine, L-COA PRO, controls the balance of inks and the precise placement of ink droplets, carefully calculating best results for each print mode and media using various factors including color reproduction, tonal gradations, black density, graininess, glossiness, anti-bronzing and elimination of metamerism, all of which contribute to creating an amazing printed image. L-COA PRO, combined with an internal 1GB of memory, enables high-speed processing of massive volumes of image data for demanding workflows. To bring further accuracy to ink ejection and limitation of color unevenness, the imagePROGRAF PRO-1000 printer offers a two-way vacuum paper feeder, which keeps media flat and even, helping with accuracy of ink ejection. The imagePROGRAF PRO-1000 printer also has a built-in calibration function to help prevent variability of color output by aging changes or printer differences. This feature allows for a consistency in colors from PRO-1000 to PRO-1000 of under a Delta E of 2†††. Reliability and quality are further maintained by the enhanced rigidity in the printer chassis allowing for even more improved dot placement, helping to produce sharper prints, including stunning borderless images.

New Software*
Enhancing the user experience with imagePROGRAF PRO-1000 printer is the intuitive software solution of Print Studio Pro v 2.0. With a focus on quality and ease of use, Print Studio Pro is a plugin for Adobe Photoshop, Adobe Lightroom and Canon Digital Photo Professional software that easily exports files directly to the printer.1 With 16-bit processing capabilities, fine details are dramatically improved, gradations are smooth and a highly accurate reproduction of the original captured image can be reproduced. Also set to be included is the Media Configuration Tool (MCT)*, enabling customization of the media in both the driver and printer. Additionally, MCT can make adjustments such as print head height and vacuum strength for each media, offering the flexibility needed in order to help achieve optimal quality across a broad range of media options. Accounting Manager* is set to be included for those looking to keep track of consumable costs such as ink and media, allowing users to manually enter in their costs in order to help determine their overall printing expenses. Whether it is an individual printing in their studio, or an administrator looking to centrally manage a number of users in a multi-unit networked environment, this tool can help you keep track of printing expenses. Device Management Console* is an administrative tool which provides users with the means to manage multiple PRO-1000 printers by helping users monitor activity such as error messages and printer information such as the execution status of calibrations.

Availability and Pricing
The Canon imagePROGRAF PRO-1000 is scheduled to be available end of October 2015 for a Manufacturer's Suggested Retail Price (MSRP) of $1,299.99. MSRP of each color ink is $59.99 and Chroma Optimizer is $54.99.

* Certain software and utilities to be released post launch: Device Management Console for PC estimated to be available December 2015, for MAC 3rd Quarter 2016,Media Configuration Tool for MAC estimated to be available 1st quarter 2016 and Accounting Manager for MAC and PC estimated to be available for 1st Quarter of 2016.
