Prograde Digital™ Announces CFExpress™ Type A Memory Card With Read Speeds Of 800mb/s
CFexpress Type A Cards Provide Minimum Sustained Write Speeds of 400MB/s (VPG 400)
San Jose, CA September 20, 2021, 8:00 am—ProGrade Digital™, founded with a mission to provide the highest quality professional grade digital memory cards and workflow solutions, announces its new CFexpress™ Type A memory card. ProGrade Digital CFexpress Type A cards provide read speeds up to 800MB/s and burst write speeds up to 700MB/s. In addition, ProGrade Digital’s CFexpress Type A card delivers a minimum sustained write speed of 400MB/s (VPG 400) – specifically designed for high-resolution video capture.
CFexpress Type A is a memory card format that is smaller than full-size SD, and bigger than microSD. By leveraging PCIe, Gen 3 interconnect with NVMe 1.3 host controller interface, CFexpress Type A provides levels of performance three times greater than the fastest UHS-II cards available in the market.
The CFexpress Type A form factor is gaining broad industry adoption due to its size and performance, and its open industry standard support from major device manufacturers.
“Due to the size and performance of CFexpress Type A, we believe that next generation compact DSLR and mirrorless cameras will start adopting this form factor over SD as we have already seen in some of the new cameras” said Wes Brewer, founder and CEO of ProGrade Digital. “We are now able to offer the widest range of CFexpress card choices to meet both current and future needs of all leading-edge imaging applications. Coupled with our CFexpress Type A USB 3.2 Gen 2 high speed reader, our customers have a complete solution for capturing and downloading still and video images as well as enhancing their digital imaging workflow.”

Wes Brewer, CEO ProGrade Digital has published a comparison between two emerging memory standards: SD Express and CFexpress.
Recently, the SD Association (governing body for SD card development and standardization) announced finalization of revision 7.0 for the card SD specification. This revision now includes a section 8.0, which adds an NVMe compliant, PCIe interface option. Like the announcement of CFexpress 1.0 made by the CompactFlash Association in August of 2016, the PCIe interface with NVMe provides a scalable path for improved performance in flash-based storage devices, and conforms to industry standards in use for devices such as SSDs.See the ProGrade Digital SD Express vs. CFexpress White Paper for more information. This white paper provides an objective look at variances between the two standards SD Express and CFexpress.

1,400MB/Second Data Transfer Speed Reaches New Milestone
LAS VEGAS—NAB—ProGrade Digital, founded with a mission to provide the highest quality professional grade digital memory cards and workflow solutions, has become the first company to publicly demonstrate the CFexpress 1.0 technology with 1TB of capacity. Debut of this important next generation digital memory card form factor, presented by CEO Wes Brewer and VP of Marketing Mark Lewis at NAB in Las Vegas, provides solid proof that the industry is moving toward productization of this new standard.
“The CFexpress standard has been evolving for several years within the CompactFlash Association as a successor to both CFast and XQD formats. We are pleased to be working within the CFA and aside device manufacturers to bring to market this next generation removable storage standard,” said Brewer. “Industry adoption of CFexpress will allow for much higher resolution and higher bit rate image capture than ever before in many still image and video capture devices. Faster offload speeds will also greatly benefit the post-capture workflow through the extremely high read speeds it provides. With our demonstration today, we’ve also been able to show compatibility for the CFexpress Type B form factor with XQD memory cards–showing operation of both card standards in a common Thunderbolt 3 reader.”
ProGrade Digital demonstrated performance benchmark speeds exceeding 1,400MB/second and burst write speeds of greater than 1,000MB/second–nearly three times faster than CFast memory cards and more than four times those for SDXC UHS-II.
