Canon Announces Temporary Factory Shutdown Due to Potential Supply Issues

According to Nikkei, Canon has announced that it will be suspending operations in five camera and related products factories in Kyushu (Oita, Miyazaki, and Nagasaki) for about two weeks (Mar 2-13) due to potential parts supply instability with the coronavirus outbreak being the root cause.

"The operating date will be transferred to another schedule within the year, but details will be finalized in the future. The company hopes to maintain production efficiency by operating at a time when parts supply stabilizes." [Nikkei] Canon notes that there are no infected employees at this time.

A two-week shutdown is not likely to cause a dramatic shortage of cameras and lenses but if you know you need something in the near future, it might be a good idea to get it now (as always, we count on you using our links for that).
