First Looks at Sony a7 III Image Quality

Noise test results (132 images) have been added to the Sony a7 III page.

Please note that, unless specified, the results include no noise reduction. Noise reduction can be equally applied to any image during post processing, so the without-noise reduction processing creates a better differentiator between camera models. Of course, the manufacturer can include noise reduction into the RAW file and for that there is no control.

I know, it wasn't nice to show the a7 III's ISO 204800 result. As is often the case, the highest ISO setting seems useless for most regards, but it does appear artistic. I think that you will like what you see from the more-realistic a7 III ISO settings.

Many other comparisons are available. Be sure to view and compare the under and over-exposed result sets to evaluate dynamic range. In that regard, it appears that the a7 III and a7R III are very similar, both very good.

The Sony a7 III is an incredibly-popular model right now and generally not available in stock unless one is willing to pay a strongly-marked-up price on eBay.
