– Lowepro, a product design company that builds protective gear for photography, video and portable electronic devices, launches its new camera backpack, the Photo Hatchback AW series. Modern and lightweight, it offers a beginning photographer or casual enthusiast many carrying options for all-day adventures. Launching in conjunction with the backpack is the Dashpoint series pouch. Both series feature sleek profiles, compact designs and a stylish, graphic treatment.
 
"Our Photo Hatchback AW is inspired by fun and social activities and provides multi-functional carrying options and secure gear access for consumers who like to get outside with their DSLR or compact systems cameras, plus a tablet and personal gear," said Tim Grimmer, Lowepro director of marketing and product management.
 
The "hatch" in the name refers to the body-side opening that contains a padded and customizable camera box with adjustable dividers that make it easy to change up a camera kit configuration. A storm-flap closure provides an extra moisture barrier. Cinch it closed, pull up on the grab handles and remove the box to turn the Photo Hatchback AW into a fully functional daypack.
 
Casual photographers who like to have all their digital devices within reach will appreciate the plentiful storage compartments of this pack. A padded front panel provides quick-access and dedicated space for a tablet or a MacBook Air® (laptop fits in the 22L model only). The roomy upper compartment offers 22 or 16 liters of volume for smartphones, keys, wallets, a light jacket, snack and other creature comforts.
 
A built-in All Weather AW Cover™ is a premium Lowepro feature included in this design. When needed, it can be deployed from the bottom and used to protect the entire pack and contents from sand, dust and moisture.
 
Additional features include: a padded and mesh-covered backpad for breathable comfort; tall, stretch-mesh side pockets for water bottles or a compact tripod; multiple adjustment points for a custom fit; SlipLock™ attachment loops to expand carrying capacity (with a Dashpoint pouch, for example); plus a built-in card pocket for spare memory.
 
The Photo Hatchback 22L AW fits a DSLR with attached lens (up to 18-105mm); 2 to 3 extra lenses, flash or other accessories; a tablet or MacBook Air® 11"; water bottle, extra gear and personal items.
 
The Photo Hatchback 16L AW fits a DSLR with attached lens (up to 18-55mm zoom); 1 to 2 extra lenses or flashes; tablet; water bottle, extra gear and personal items.
 
The Photo Hatchback AW series is available in three colors: Pepper Red, Slate Grey and Galaxy Blue.
 
Launching concurrently is the Dashpoint series of outdoor-inspired pouches. Lightweight, yet rugged in construction, these pouches fit and protect a myriad of digital devices—from a CSC (compact system camera) or GPS unit in the largest, to a point & shoot or pocket video in the smallest.
 
A new, t-Lock™ system (with vertical webbing and horizontal flaps) easily secures the pouch to the most commmon attachment points, such as loops, straps and daisychains (including the SlipLock™ loops on the Photo Hatchback AW).
 
The Dashpoint 30 fits a CSC with attached zoom lens or handheld GPS unit.
 
The Dashpoint 20 fits a CSC with attached pancake lens or a pro compact camera.
 
And the Dashpoint 10 fits a point & shoot, pocket video, smartphone, MP3 player or other ultra-compact device.
