Tamron Posts Notice Regarding Lenses with Altered Serial Numbers

From Tamron:

Notice Regarding Lenses with Altered Serial Numbers

Tamron products with erased or altered laser etched serial number have been found in the USA, Europe, China and elsewhere. These products had no or forged warranty cards.

Tamron cannot offer any warranty for products without a genuine warranty card, such as the ones noted above. In this case, all repairs are subject to charges.

Interchangeable lenses are precision optical products and defects or malfunctions may occur due to inadequate handling. Products with erased or altered serial numbers are exposed to vibrations when the original markings are scraped off. Tamron cannot guarantee the quality of such products.

Tamron products are sold through our local subsidiaries and authorized distributors worldwide. Tamron cannot guarantee the quality of products that are not supplied by our local subsidiaries or authorized distributors, as these are not under Tamron's control.

There is a possibility that lenses bought from other suppliers may be second hand or stolen.

Therefore when purchasing a Tamron product, please make sure it is from a local subsidiary or authorized distributor. Check if a local warranty card of the country of purchase that contains the product's serial number is attached to confirm that it is a product supplied by a local subsidiary or authorized distributor.

If you find anything suspicious with your purchased Tamron product such as no warranty card, please inquire with the dealer where it was purchased or contact Tamron directly.
