Wild Mustard Field Wild Mustard Field

I discovered this beautiful field of wild mustard while exploring local roads - by taking a different than usual way home from one of the kid's events.

Purple Mushroom Picture Purple Mushroom Picture

My oldest daughter loves mushrooms (she is now growing them in a box in our basement) and we enjoy photographing these marvels together. This purple mushrooms is one of my take-homes from an outing together.

For this shot, I rested the camera on my hands which were against the ground. I used the Canon EOS 60D's Vari-Angle LCD to make shooting from ground level an easy and comfortable task.

The Sigma 17-70's OS allowed me to shoot at 1/6 seconds without a tripod. Using a 17mm focal length from a close distance makes the viewer feel more like part of the scene.

Colors of the Fall Harvest Colors of the Fall Harvest

The fall harvest provides great colors for still life photos. This is a found arrangement.

Rain-Flattened Colchicum Rain-Flattened Colchicum

I liked how the bright white stems of these rain-flattened colchicum lead to the bright purple color at the other side of the frame.

Looking Up at a Mushroom Looking Up at a Mushroom

The Sigma 17-70 has a very short minimum focus distance, allowing unusual compositions such as this view of a large white mushroom. This perspective is made possible by the Canon EOS 60D's Vari-Angle LCD.

Drying the Corn Drying the Corn

Colorful corn hangs out to dry. I framed this shot (and cropped it slightly during post processing) so that the top and bottom edges of the frame were (mostly) not intersected by strong lines and that the corn was balanced within the frame.

Yellow Flower Close-Up Yellow Flower Close-Up

It is hard to go wrong when photographing beautiful flowers such as this one. For this shot, I let the skyward corner of the frame go blown and allowed a small portion of green leaf to show in the opposite corner.

Mushroom and Log Mushroom and Log

I relied on image stabilization to be able to get this .8 second exposure from a position that would have required a specialized camera support to capture otherwise. I also utilized the Canon EOS 60D's Vari-Angle LCD to focus and frame from this ground-based position.

Mushroom Hunters Mushroom Hunters

Young mushroom hunters photograph their finds. Photography is a great passion to share with your kids. Get yourself a new camera and give them your current model. You might actually find some pictures of yourself making it into the family photo collection.

Field of Yellow Field of Yellow

A huge field of yellow wild mustard makes a great photo subject. For this composition, I placed the rolling tree line about 1/3 of the way down from the top of the frame.

Pumpkins, gourds, corn and other fall items provide great colors for photographs.

Selecting the Perfect Gourd Selecting the Perfect Gourd

There is something about colorful gourds that kids find extremely attractive. At least one trip to the farm market is on the agenda each fall. The short trip generally yields some shots of the kids.

Pink Flower 2 Pink Flower 2

The Sigma 17-70mm OS Lens features an unusually large maximum magnification specification for a zoom lens - or for any non-macro-specific lens for that matter. Tightly framed flower pictures such as this one are not a problem for this lens.
