Canon Eyepiece Extender EP-EX15 Review

Tired of having a smeary LCD? The Canon Eyepiece Extender EP-EX15 may be for you.

Compatible with select Canon Digital SLRs (most of them), the Canon Eyepiece Extender EP-EX15 mounts between the camera's eyecup and the viewfinder. It provides a 5/8" (15mm) extension that makes the viewfinder easier to use - by keeping your nose off of the LCD. The extra nose relief helps keep the LCD clear of nose oil - which I'm sure all of us can appreciate including eyeglass wearers. The eyepiece extender makes using the viewfinder noticeably more comfortable.

The function of the EP-EX15 is readily visible in the above picture. The camera body pictured is a Canon EOS 30D.

"Reduces viewfinder magnification by 30%". This is the bad news - the penalty for the extra nose space. I really appreciate the extra nose relief, but this penalty was just high enough that I personally am not using the Canon Eyepiece Extender EP-EX15. Overall opinion of this accessory is mixed - some love it, some don't.

Anything that sticks out can catch. With the EP-EX15 in place, sliding your camera into a tight case (for example) can cause the EP-EX15 and eyecup to be slid off the camera. A little care and you should have no problems.

Canon Eyepiece Extender EP-EX15 - Reverse Side

The Canon Eyepiece Extender EP-EX15 is inexpensive - You will not lose much if you decide you don't like this accessory - And it is a bargain if you like it.
