Fast, Quiet Autofocus. This lens includes internal focusing and a Silent Wave Motor, which allows for fast, accurate, and quiet autofocus. Its super integrated coating enhances image clarity by reducing ghosting and flares.
Internal-Focusing Design. Internal focus maintains the working distance throughout the focus range. This also helps to maintain the positioning of a polarizer or lens hood.

I’ve been limited to shooting with this around the shop but have had my hands on it enough to make some pretty strong initial impressions (I’m not one to let a lack of knowledge keep me from having a strong opinion). This one is a home run! That’s it. Get it. Buy it or rent it, but get it.
The autofocus is quick and the lens is sharp corner to corner by f/2.8. It has almost no distortion. It’s flare resistant, it has little aberration, it doesn’t have focus shift – it really is just about perfect.
Q & A
“G” is a reference to a G-Type lens and is distinguishable from a standard D-Type lens by its lack of an aperture control ring. G-Type lenses relay distance information to compatible DSLRs like a D-Type lens but rely wholly on electronic aperture control through a camera body.
“AF-S” refers to Auto Focus that features Nikon’s Silent Wave Motor or “SWM.”
