The Sigma 85mm f/1.4 DG HSM A1 Art for Canon is a high-quality portrait-length lens designed for EF-mount cameras and camcorders. Key features include:
Great for portraiture and event photography
Excellent image quality, clarity, contrast, and sharpness
Fast, smooth, and quiet autofocus
Compatible with the Sigma USB dock
Full-Frame Portrait Lens. The Sigma 85mm f/1.4 gives users a much-needed Art-Series portrait lens. Dedicated portrait shooters, wedding photographers, event photographers, and anybody who needs a short tele lens will all benefit. The fast f/1.4 aperture allows great low-light capability as well as a very shallow depth-of-field. Using a APS-C sensor camera? You’ll have a focal length equivalent to 136mm.
High Image Quality. As a part of Sigma’s Art lens line, this lens goes through Sigma’s rigorous A1 testing to ensure high image quality. The 85mm f/1.4’s optics are quite impressive. Two SLD glass elements, one high-refractive index element, and one aspherical element correct for chromatic aberrations throughout the entire focusing range, while ensuring high image sharpness, clarity, and contrast. A Super Multi-Layer Coating minimizes lens flare and ghosting to help produce high-contrast, color-accurate images.
Hyper Sonic Motor Autofocus System. The HSM autofocus system provides fast, smooth, and quiet operation in a wide variety of shooting situations. You can also manually override the autofocus motor at any time by rotating the focusing ring, giving you quick fine-tuning ability.
Dock Compatible. This lens is compatible with the Sigma USB Dock for Canon EF Lenses (separate rental item), allowing you to adjust the focus limiter, autofocus speed, and microfocus settings through the Sigma Optimization Pro software.

This lens is in a different world compared to the original Sigma 85mm f/1.4 EX DG HSM in every category, and it’s just as good as the Canon 85 f/1.2 and the Nikon f/1.4 in almost every way. Autofocus is super quick and very accurate, but there’s a little bit of hesitation when focusing in low light. It’ll still lock focus in low light, just not as quickly as the Canon 1.2 or Nikon 1.4.
Image quality and sharpness are top of the line, which isn’t much of a surprise for a Sigma Art lens. This lens is massive (86mm filter) compared to the other 85s and the other Sigma Arts, so don’t be surprised by its size and weight when you get your hands on it. It’s perfect for portraiture, wonderful for weddings, and beautiful for bokeh balls.
Yes, we also carry this lens in L and Nikon mounts.
Does this lens work with the Sigma USB Dock?
Yes, this lens is compatible with the Sigma USB Dock for Canon EF Lenses (separate rental item), allowing you to adjust certain parameters through the Sigma Optimization Pro software.

Review by Nicholas G. on 1 May 2025review stating Lens was so good, I
Lens was so good, I bought it! Seriously, the crispness of the photos, the ability to adjust for low lighting and the quick focus made this lens my next piece to own. The worse part of these lenses is the 86mm filters needed, hard to find and expensive. But, the lens is so good, it doesn’t matter.

A colleague recommended testing out Lens Rental before purchasing my next professional lens. And I couldn't be happy that I took her advice! Not only was the purchasing process easy to navigate, the packaging arrived a day earlier which gave me even more time to spend with the lens. Also the lovely note on tape truly brightened my day.
