I shot a soccer practice for the first time and the results were great. I usually shoot an EF 70-200mm f/2. 8 L IS II.

I used to regularly rent the Canon RF 70-200mm f/2. 8L IS, which is an all-around great lens—sharp, focuses quickly, and looks great wide open at 2. 8. The smaller form factor goes a long way when trying to organize your camera bag for a wedding day, wit...Read More
hout question. However, once I got my hands on the new Canon RF 70-200mm f/2. 8 L IS USM Z, it immediately became my preference over the two.
Although it has the classic "full size" telephoto form factor that certainly makes it more challenging to fit in the bag, I've personally found it to respond a little snappier auto-focus-wise, and I also find myself inclined to say it's the taddest bit sharper than the older model, but I can't truly say I've actually done any real comparison tests to give anybody proof in the pixels.
The biggest difference is the ease of the focus throw between the two models. In the newer, IS USM Z, to get from 70mm to 200mm is extremely smooth and fast, requiring a very small flick of the wrist. While, on the other hand, in the older RF IS version, it took a lot more turning (and time) to move through the entirety of the focal range, and occassionally you'd get a lens with a particularly stiff tube, making it even more of a process.
They're both awesome lenses, the majority of the RF lenses have been, but I feel that if you need the highest quality and especially the best capability for speed, the new Canon RF 70-200mm f/2. 8 L IS USM Z is definitely the way to go. Read Less
