Full-Frame E-Mount. As a part of the FE line of lenses, the Sony FE 40mm f/2.5 G is designed to cover the full-frame sensors on Sony a7 / a9 series cameras. Since it’s an E-mount lens, it’s also fully compatible with their crop-frame, APS-C cameras that feature an E-mount.

Versatile Wide-Normal Length Prime. When used on a full-frame camera, this lens provides a wide-normal focal length that’s well-suited to portraiture, documentary shooting, street photography, and landscapes, among other applications. The reasonably fast f/2.5 aperture is great for low-light shooting and subject-background isolation, while the 11-inch minimum focusing distance lets you get in close. Using an APS-C camera? You’ll get a 60mm focal length.

Dual XD Linear Motor Autofocus System. This internal focusing system provides fast, nearly silent, and highly accurate autofocus performance that’s great for still and video use. A customizable focus hold button and an AF/MF switch help to tailor focusing to your shooting needs.

Advanced Optics. The FE 40mm f/2.5’s nine-group/nine-element optical design incorporates an advanced aspherical element to help produce sharp, clear images. The lens’s rounded seven-blade diaphragm gives images smooth bokeh when you’re using selective-focusing techniques, while a multi-coating reduces color fringing and aberrations.

Durable, Compact Build. This lens’s durable, dust- and moisture-resistant construction and rubberized control rings mean you can use it in adverse conditions without worry. You can de-click the physical aperture ring for smooth, silent aperture switching that’s ideal for video applications.

Compatible With Sony Airpeak. This lens was designed to be the same size and same approximate weight as its counterparts, the 24mm f/2.8 and the 50mm f/2.5, so they could be easily swapped for each when used with gimbals like the one found on the Sony Airpeak Drone, to prevent having to rebalance and calibrate the setup.
