The Nikon 300mm f/4E AF-S PF ED VR is a professional-grade super telephoto lens and update to the Nikon 300mm f/4D ED AF-S. Key features include:
4.5-stop vibration reduction
Fast, nearly silent autofocus and full-time manual focus
Phase fresnel lens design
Excellent for wildlife photography
Phase Fresnel Lens Design. The phase fresnel optic allows the lens to be smaller and lighter compared to its predecessor. This advanced optic system effectively eliminates chromatic aberration and ghosting, ensuring high-quality images. If this sounds vaguely familiar, Canon has used this same optical formula for quite some time under the name Diffractive Optics.
Super Telephoto Prime. The 300mm focal length is popular for sports and wildlife photographers. With its reduced size and weight, this lens targets the latter of the two.
Vibration Reduction. The stabilizer is rated for up to 4.5 stops of correction, which in turn enables better image quality when hand-holding. Additionally, a designated Sports and Action VR Mode provides a more accurate stabilization method when panning.
Silent Wave Autofocus Motor. Provides fast, nearly silent autofocus with full-time manual-focus override for instantaneous manual-focus tweaking. There’s also a focus-limit switch for limiting the focus distance to 3m or further.
Build and Optics. Fluorine coating on the front lens element repels dust, water, grease, and dirt for easy cleaning. In addition to the phase fresnel element, there’s a single extra-low dispersion element for aberration control. At 5.8 inches and 1.7 lb., this 300mm lens is remarkably small compared to other options in the same quality range.
Yes! We carry several camera straps that add comfort and functionality over default straps found on cameras, like the Peak Design Slide Lite Camera Strap or the Kirk SS-1 KES Security Strap.
This rental doesn’t include the tripod collar. If you need it, please request it in the Special Instructions box during checkout and we’ll do our best to send it. Please be aware that we offer them on a first-come first-served basis.
“E” is a reference to an E-Type lens which uses electronic aperture blade control for improved auto exposure accuracy during continuous shooting. Please note, E lenses have very limited compatibility. Refer to the camera compatibility list under Resources to determine whether or not this is the appropriate lens for your needs.
“AF-S” refers to Auto Focus that features Nikon’s Silent Wave Motor or “SWM.”
“PF” stands for “Phase Fresnel” which is a type of lens element that can reduce chromatic aberration using fewer elements. This technology allows for lighter and more compact lenses but is also more prone to flaring when used with strong light sources near the frame of the image. To minimize the flare phenomenon, download the Capture NX-D app linked under “Resources.”
“ED” stands for “Extra-Low Dispersion” Glass and is a reference to specialized glass used for the correction of chromatic aberrations.
“VR” or “Vibration Reduction” is a reference to Nikon’s proprietary in-lens image stabilization.
Due to its electromagnetic aperture mechanism, this lens isn’t compatible with Nikon D90/D200/D2 DSLRs or older.
