What’s New. Compared to its predecessor, this lens has a more compact, collapsible design and a new optical formula to accommodate its smaller size. It also features the updated VR II image-stabilization system, which offers up to 4 stops of correction.

DX Telephoto Zoom. Designed specifically for DX-sensor cameras, the 55-200mm f/4-5.6G AF-S DX VR II offers a focal length equivalent to 82-300mm post sensor-crop factor. This is a popular focal range for daytime sports and wildlife photography. Please note that the slower, variable f/4-5.6 aperture will limit its usefulness to sunny, daylight conditions.

VR II Stabilization. As mentioned above, the VR II image stabilization system provides up to 4 stops of camera-shake correction.

Silent Wave Motor Autofocus System. The Silent Wave Motor provides fast, nearly silent autofocus performance. There’s also a Manual Focus Override switch for quick manual adjustments.

Collapsible Build. In its collapsed position, this lens is a mere 3.2" long. To use it, just push the button embedded in the zoom ring and rotate the lens until it’s in the ready position. To collapse it, just push the button again and rotate the lens in the opposite direction.
