Free to Use: Getty Offers 35 Million Images for Non-Commercial Use

In a surprise move, Getty is now offering the free use of over 35 million of its images via its new embed tool. The images are watermark-free and simply display captions with the images linking back to Getty. (thanks James)

This move is undoubtedly due to the huge number of unpurchased Getty images floating around the web. Getty hopes the embedded images will increase exposure, expand its client base and open up new sources of revenue.

More information can be found in these articles by CNET and The Verge.

By the way, if you want to use one of this site's copyrighted images for your own personal use, you can! Just read Bryan's Free Use of DSLR Camera, Lens and Accessory Product Images.
