Right, the 1/200 shutter speed is a relatively long exposure for photographing close wildlife.
The beast paused (he was watching a cow) long enough for me to roll the shutter speed down to this setting.
With auto ISO selected in manual exposure mode, the camera then chose a very low noise ISO setting despite the dark light levels.
