Canon Extends Instant Rebates Through July, But Many Rebates Have Been Lowered
The new Canon instant rebate program scheduled to run July 2 - 29 (with some special rebates ending July 8) features quite a few changes from the previous rebate program, and few consumers will appreciate those changes. Canon had a particularly enticing rebate program in June, but it looks they've returned to a more typical rebate incentive program this time around.
Of course, it's important to keep things in perspective; any savings relative to MSRP is certainly a good thing.

Notable Instant Rebate Changes for July
- Top end EOS Rebel T6s IR range increased $50.00 to $350.00
- Low end EOS Rebel SL1 IR range increased $50.00 to $200.00
- EOS M5 body-only now qualifies for a $50.00 IR
- EF-S 10-22mm f/3.5-4.5 USM no longer qualifies for IR
- EF 11-24mm f/4L USM IR decreased from $300.00 to $200.00
- EF 24-70mm f/2.8L II USM IR decreased from $200.00 to $150.00
- EF 70-200mm f/2.8L IS II USM IR decreased from $200.00 to $150.00
- EF 70-200mm f/2.8L USM IR decreased from $100.00 to $50.00
- EF 70-300mm f/4-5.6 IS USM IR decreased from $200.00 to $150.00
- EF 100-400mm f/4.5-5.6L IS II USM IR decreased from $200.00 to $150.00
- EF-S 24mm f/2.8 STM no longer qualifies for IR
- EF 28mm f/2.8 IS USM IR decreased from $80.00 to $50.00
- EF 35mm f/1.4L II USM IR decreased from $150.00 to $100.00
- EF 50mm f/1.2L USM IR decreased from $150.00 to $100.00
- EF 50mm f/1.4 USM IR decreased from $70.00 t0 $50.00
- EF 50mm f/1.8 STM no longer qualifies for IR
- EF 85mm f/1.2L II USM IR decreased from $150.00 to $100.00
- EF 85mm f/1.8 USM IR decreased from $70.00 to $50.00
- EF 100mm f/2.8L IS USM Macro IR decreased from $150.00 to $100.00
- EF 400mm f/5.6L USM IR decreased from $100.00 to $70.00
There's no mail-in rebate form currently available with an extended expiration date to cover this current rebate period, which may indicate that these long-running rebates have finally ended.
Also note that Canon's CarePAK Plus program with 13-months of accidental damage coverage is scheduled to end July 8.
