From Samyang Optics:

A global optics brand, Samyang Optics, has announced the release of 2 new lenses: XEEN 14mm T3.1 and 35mm T1.5. These two lenses, along with the existing 24mm T1.5, 50mm T1.5 and 85mm T1.5 lenses, create a perfect balanced five-lens-set for filming video and cinema with the outstanding image quality from resolving power for 4K+ production.

XEEN is a specialized brand in professional video-cine lens launched by Samyang Optics in 2015. The XEEN lenses are designed with Samyang Optics' know-how and have outstanding optical performance for 4K+ with the X-Coating Technology, ensuring maximum image quality to create a cinematic look.

The 24mm x 36mm negative size allows XEEN to not only work with full frame cameras, but also with Super 35, APS-C and APS-H cameras. The lenses are available in five different mounts - PL, EF, F, E, and MFT and two different focus scales - metric and imperial units. Also, the aluminum metal housing is known for its reliability in various shooting conditions.

Most of XEEN lenses come in a bright T1.5 aperture. The lenses deliver high quality footage with clear contrast and impressive colors, even under less-than-optimal lighting conditions. The large aperture also creates a pleasing bokeh effect for a cinematic look.

“Thanks to the rise of multi-channel networks, the demands for video creation is internationally surging and the expectation of video quality is also increasing,” stated by a XEEN official. He continuously said, “to satisfy the international needs, we have completed the first perfection of XEEN lenses with five lenses which deliver a high-quality cinematic image.” As an answer to the future product plan, he carefully disclosed that two more XEEN lenses will be announced in the second half of the year.

Created to deliver infinite possibilities, XEEN 14mm and 35mm lenses will be globally available in early March. The recommended retail price of each lens is USD $2,495.00.

I received a Facebook notice this morning that one of the brands I was following – Samyang Optics – had changed its name to "Next77 Global."

I'm not quite sure what's behind the name change, but I'll keep an eye out for any press releases on the matter.

Not long ago, the Samsung UK website was one of the better sources for obtaining information regarding Samyang Lenses. Why? As the Samyang UK site was authored by English-speaking natives, it was much easier to read (the press releases were translated very well) compared to some of the other international Samyang sites.

Over the past year or so, the main Samyang Optics site has gotten much better for English-speaking individuals and has been redesigned with a great look. The main site has gotten so good, in fact, that it looks as if Samyang decided to go a different direction with their UK-oriented site.

Just think, if Samyang had made this change around April 1, no one would have thought I was being serious in reporting this change. But truthfully, I'm just not creative enough to have come up with this.

Ramen, anyone?

From Samyang:

Samyang Europe announces the upcoming Autumn release of the full-frame Samyang 12mm f/2.8 ED AS NCS Fisheye lens. The lens will be officially introduced during Photokina in Cologne on September 16th 2014.

Samyang 12mm f/2.8 ED AS NCS Fisheye is a bright, super wide-angle fisheye lens designed especially for full-frame cameras. It offers the image area in 24 x 36mm format and the diagonal angle of view of 180 degrees. In terms of the optics, it is one of the most advanced "fisheye” lenses. The product's sophisticated optics consists of 12 lens elements arranged in 8 groups. This includes three elements made of low dispersion ED glass and two aspherical lens elements to ensure perfect image depth and minimized chromatic aberration. Samyang 12mm f/2.8 ED AS NCS Fisheye is the third lens of the brand (along with 10mm f/2.8 and 12mm f/2.0) with highly effective nanocrystal anti-reflection NCS coating applied together with standard UMC coatings. Because of these advanced coatings and its fast aperture (f/2.8) the lens can be used as a perfect tool in diverse lighting conditions, as it provides great focus, high contrast and natural color reproduction even when used wide open. The premiere of Samyang 12mm f/2.8 ED AS NCS Fisheye is like a dream coming true for professional photographers and filmmakers who seem to have an increasing demand for this type of lenses since the release of 8mm and 7.5mm models, which are considered to be the best "fisheye" lenses on the market.

You will have an opportunity to take a look at the pre-production copy of the new lens on the Samyang stand (hall 2.1, A-025) during the upcoming Photokina 2014 in Cologne. The visitors will be also able to test two other recently introduced lenses: Samyang 50mm f/1.4 AS UMC and Samyang V-DSLR 50mm T1.5 AS UMC.

The market release date for the new lens and its retail price will be announced at a later date.

From Samyang (translated):

The Samyang 50 mm T1.5 AS UMC has been designed for cameras with full-frame sensors or smaller. The lens offers a field of view of 46.2 degree, and due to the wide T1.5 (f / 1.4) aperture, it allows users to shoot in low light while providing excellent image quality and a shallow depth of field. The optical lens design consists of nine lenses arranged in six groups (including one aspherical and one hybrid aspherical). To ensure high contrast and faithful color reproduction, lenses are covered with anti-reflex multilayer coatings UMC.

Strengths
The Samyang 50 mm T1.5 features a beautifully smooth bokeh. With an eight-bladed aperture, objects outside the depth of field are extremely soft, which professional filmmakers and photographers specializing in portrait photography will especially appreciate.

The new Samyang 50 mm T1.5 AS UMC Cine Lens will be first unveiled at Photokina 2014. Samyang cordially invites you to visit its booth No. A-025 in hall 2.1 at the fair in Cologne on 16 - 21.09.2014.

From Samyang:

The prototype version of the Samyang 10mm f/2.8 was first presented at Photokina 2012. Since then, intensive work to improve the lens and to achieve the highest possible optical quality while reducing its footprint. The result of this work is presented today lens Samyang 10mm 1:2.8 ED AS NCS CS, which in terms of performance and capabilities can successfully compete with the best wide-angle designs available on the market.

Samyang 10mm 1:2.8 ED AS NCS CS is a great tool to photograph interiors, architecture and landscapes. It offers an exceptionally wide field of view, ranging 109.5 degree and linear imaging performance. It features a wide f/2.8 aperture for shooting in low light conditions. It can therefore be successfully used in sports photography and reportage. The optical design of the lens consists of 14 elements divided into 10 groups, which include 2 AS aspherical lenses and one ED glass with a very low coefficient of dispersion. Also, the lens has gained a permanent hood to allow for its compact dimensions and to reduce weight by almost 160 grams from the prototype stage.

Samyang 10mm 1:2.8 ED AS NCS CS is the first lens produced by Samyang Optics, which uses nano-crystalline anti-reflective coating. It is characterized by lower reflectance than the shell (U) MC, and the process of applying for a better fit to the structure of the lens surface. The benefits of using nanocrystalline coatings are: much better light transmission, greater resistance to glare and higher contrast, which positively affects the optical resolution of the lens.

From Samyang:

Samyang Europe introduces a new product to its lineup – the SFH-14 filter holder designed specifically for the Samyang 14mm 1:2.8 ED AS IF UMC lens. In addition to the holder, three rectangular filters manufactured by Cokin company will also be released.

Samyang Filter Holder SFH-14

Samyang filter holder SFH-14 has been designed from scratch for the Samyang 14mm lens in standard and V-DSLR cine versions. The new filter holder solves the common problem of mounting filters on a lens that has been designed without filter threads. The holder is made of lightweight and durable ABS plastic. In order to eliminate internal reflections, its interior has been flocked giving it a velvety black color. The holder comes with two filter slots so two filters can be used simultaneously. The Samyang filter holder features a rotating mount so that filters can be used in both vertical and horizontal orientation.

Three kinds of rectangular filters will also be made available, each 161 x 139 x 3 mm in size, specially designed and manufactured by the renowned Cokin company. The three filters will include the 154 ND8, 121M ND4 and 123s. Model 154 ND8 is a neutral gray filter of ND8 opacity that will allow for slower shutter speeds thereby enabling the blurring of moving objects (e.g. clouds, water, traffic). It can also be used by filmmakers who want to achieve a shallow depth of field in strong sunlight. The graduated 121M ND4 gray filter is mainly designed for landscape photography and architecture. It allows for a reduction in contrast between light and dark portions of the frame. The third filter available, the Cokin 123S, is a graduated blue filter that can be used to obtain or accentuate a blue sky effect in the landscape photography.

Samyang SFH-14 Holder Specifications:

  • Material: ABS plastic, metal
  • Weight: 115 g (weight without filters)
  • Dimensions: 180 x 168 x 45 mm
  • Price: 32 €

Cokin Filter Specifications:

  • Material: optical resin

From Samyang:

Samyang releases new wide-angle 10mm f/2.8 ED AS NCS CS lens dedicated for APS-C system cameras.

Prototype versions of Samyang 10mm f/2.8 lens were originally presented to the public at the Photokina 2012 show. Samyang has stepped its innovation and introduced a focused development program to obtain the highest possible optical parameters and reduce the product's size. These efforts resulted in the latest version of Samyang 10 f/2.8 ED AS NCS CS lens featuring parameters and capabilities comparable to the best wide-angle prime and zoom lenses on the market.

Samyang 10mm f/2.8 ED AS NCS CS is an ideal tool for indoor, architecture and landscape shooting. It provides an exceptionally wide field of view of up to 109.5 degrees and rectilinear image mapping function. Because of its fast f/2.8 aperture, you can also use the lens in low light conditions. The lens is especially useful for sport photography and photojournalism purposes. The product's optics comprises 14 elements divided into 10 groups, with 2 aspherical AS lenses and one lens made of extra-low dispersion glass. The lens features an embedded lens hood which ensures more compact size of the lens and reduces its weight by approximately 160 grams*.

NCS (Nano Coating System)
Samyang 10mm f/2.8 ED AS NCS CS is the first Samyang Optics lens featuring a nano crystal anti-reflection coating system. This technology provides lower reflection factor than (U)MC system as the coating is now applied more evenly on the surface of the lens. Benefits of the nano crystal layer include better light transmission, increased resistance to reflections, and higher contrast leading to supreme optical resolution.

The bigger one will house a set of six camera lenses: Samyang V-DSLR 8mm T3.8 UMC Fish-eye CS II; 14mm T3.1 ED AS IF UMC; 24mm T1.5 ED AS IF UMC; 35mm T1.5 AS IF UMC; 85mm T1.5 AS IF UMC and 500mm f/6.3 DX Mirror. The smaller one is designed for our three most popular V-DSLR lens models: 14mm, 24mm i 35mm.

The cases provide a descent protection against dust, water splashes, impacts and mechanical damages. They have been made of PP plastics and are resistant to shocks and low temperatures. The cases are locked with two snap buckles which provide strong pressure and prevent accidental opening. Samyang cases are filled in with polyurethane foam to protect the gear against heavy impacts and prevent shifting. Each lens is placed in a specially cut out hole corresponding to its sizes. The larger case (400×320×180cm) weighs 3.2 kg; the smaller (330×310×148cm) weighs 1.65 kg.

Buy a set of three or six lenses and collect your free case from the manufacturer. You can also buy it as a standalone product - recommended retail prices in Europe are EURO 259 for the larger one and EUR 179 for the smaller one.

The new Samyang product is to be released within a couple of weeks.
