Tamron has released firmware updates for its 10-24mm F/3.5-4.5 Di II VC HLD and 18-400mm F/3.5-6.3 Di II VC HLD lenses with the following noted change:
 
  • Enable general operations on Canon EOS R. [NOTE] Canon Mount Adapter EF-EOS R is required to attach the lens to Canon EOS R.
The lenses' firmware can be updated via the Tamron TAP-in Console.

December 20, 2018, Saitama, Japan - Tamron Co., Ltd. announces a new firmware update for the Tamron SP 150-600mm F/5-6.3 Di VC USD G2 (Model A022) for compatibility with the Canon EOS R and Mount Adapter EF-EOS R. The new F/W version makes the model compatible with Canon "EOS R" and Canon "Mount Adapter EF-EOS R" for general operations[1].
 
The lens firmware can be updated with the separately sold TAP-in Console. Customers may also contact Tamron USA's service department at 1-800-827-8880, option 1 for information on sending in the lens for the update.

Tamron has added general Nikon Z 7 / FTZ Adapter support via firmware updates for the following lenses:
 
  • Tamron SP 15-30mm F/2.8 Di VC USD G2 for Nikon
  • Tamron SP 24-70mm F/2.8 Di VC USD G2 for Nikon
  • Tamron 18-400mm F/3.5-6.3 Di II VC HLD for Nikon
A Tamron TAP-in Console is required for the firmware updates.

We would like to announce that new firmware versions are now available for the following three Tamron models. The new F/W versions make the three models compatible with Nikon Z7 and FTZ adapter for general operations(*1).
 
This is an update announcement of our October 4th compatibility notice with some of Tamron Di/Di II series for Nikon mount models not operating properly on Nikon Z7 and Nikon Mount Adapter FTZ.

Firmware update will not be required for lenses with these serial numbers.
 
Firmware Improvements
 
  • When used in combination with the Canon EOS 5D Mark IV, behavior where the camera takes several seconds to start up when first switched on after mounting the lens has been improved.
  • When used in combination with the Canon EOS 5D Mark IV, behavior where power consumption was high with the lens mounted and where the camera’s battery charge would continue to drain even when the camera was switched off and stowed with the lenses mounted has been improved.
How to update the firmware
 
  1. The firmware can be updated using the TAP-in Console (sold separately.) Using the TAP-in Console accessory, customers can update the firmware themselves.
  2. For those who require firmware update service, please contact your local Tamron distributor for more details.

  1. We would like to ask you that, when using a Tamron lens with Canon EOS 5D Mark IV camera that has been released in this September, you turn OFF the “Lens aberration correction” function included in the camera’s menu prior to use.
  2. We have learned the issue that when you attach the Tamron SP 90mm F/2.8 Di MACRO 1:1 VC USD (Model F017) on the EOS 5D Mark IV, it takes several seconds to turn on the power of the camera at the first.
We sincerely apologize to all users and potential purchasers for any inconvenience the issue may cause.
