PocketWizard Announces "Future-Proof" FlexTT6 for Canon https://www.the-digital-picture.com/News/News-Post.aspx?News=20658&Title=PocketWizard-Announces-Future-Proof-FlexTT6-for-Canon

So. Burlington, VT – May 30, 2017 – LPA Design, manufacturers of PocketWizard Photo Products, the global leader in reliable wireless control of cameras, flash lighting and light meters, announces the new FlexTT6 Transceiver for Canon – the latest in PocketWizard’s flagship TTL radios. With new under-the-hood technology, it is compatible with the Canon 5D Mark IV, 1D X Mark II, 80D, 77D, T7i and T6 cameras, along with Canon’s 600 EX II-RT and 430 EX III-RT flashes. It is legacy compatible with more than 20 additional Canon cameras and flashes. The FlexTT6 addresses faster camera sensor speeds and is future-proof for next generation camera releases. The new FlexTT6 includes all the features and reliability as the FlexTT5, such as TTL, HSS and PocketWizard’s patented HyperSync technology.

“Owners of newer Canon cameras can now access the remarkable wireless TTL technology pioneered and patented by PocketWizard,” comments Karen Marshall, CEO of LPA Design. “Our engineering team was able to conquer the challenges presented by faster camera sensors with this hardware solution.”

The FlexTT6 is forward, backward and cross-compatible with the PocketWizard family of wireless radios. This includes compatibility with the FlexTT5 as a receiving radio, as well as the entire line of Plus radios, the MultiMAX, MiniTT1, AC3 ZoneController and Control TL receivers.

“We remain focused on the essential value and reliability of the PocketWizard family of wireless gear for our photographers. Add the FlexTT6 to your gear bag, get your flash off your camera and you are ready to shoot with new and older Canon cameras supported by your PocketWizard wireless radios”, said Marshall. “Our customers also tell us that in an increasingly overcrowded 2.4 GHz smart device world that our unique 344 MHz (FCC) and 433 MHz (CE) radios cut through the wireless clutter delivering reliability every shot,” said Patrick Clow, Manager of Customer and Technical Support.

Patented HyperSync technology allows photographers to shoot at higher sync speeds, over power the sun, stop action, and control both ambient light and flash at the same time. HSS allows for shooting wide open apertures (up to 1/8000th) in bright sun with speedlites for amazing lighting effects.

“At PocketWizard we’re here for one reason, to create and support products that allow you to take your best image every time,” added Clow.

The new FlexTT6 for Canon will be available at retail and on line in the US and Canada starting June 8, 2017.

PocketWizard Releases ControlTL MiniTT1 / FlexTT5 Nikon Beta Firmware v.3.818 https://www.the-digital-picture.com/News/News-Post.aspx?News=18695&Title=PocketWizard-Releases-ControlTL-MiniTT1--FlexTT5-Nikon-Beta-Firmware-v-3-818

From PocketWizard:

Intro: Beta Firmware Version 3.818 addresses compatibility with newer Nikon gear introduced since the launch of ControlTL Firmware version 3.800, and includes some minor improvements.

New Key Feature:

The following Nikon gear is now supported in this beta firmware release:

  • Nikon D5
  • Nikon D500
  • Nikon D7200
  • Nikon D5500
  • Nikon SB-5000 (remote only – see operational consideration)

These cameras will work in the ControlTL system with normal operational considerations. Read more about the general Nikon Operational Considerations on the PocketWizard Wiki.

SB-5000 Operational Consideration: The Nikon SB-5000 should only be used as a remote Speedlight on a FlexTT5 (set to TTL, not REMOTE per normal ControlTL operation). We do not recommend using the SB-5000 as a MASTER Speedlight on your camera’s ControlTL radio at this time. It might work as a MASTER on select cameras, but not others. If you use it as MASTER in your setup and it only emits a tiny burst of light at trigger time, it is not compatible. We hope to address this consideration in a future firmware release.

D7200/D5500 Operational Consideration: Rear curtain sync mode with these cameras only works with remote flash, not with on camera flash.

Other Improvements:

  • Nikon FlexTT5 radios can now have Custom IDs installed, regardless of firmware version. Visit this page for more information:
  • As of this date, the latest camera firmware from Nikon has been tested*, including:
    • D5 C:1.10
    • D4S C:1.31
    • D500 C:1.02
    • D7200 C:1.01
    • D5500 C:1.01
    • And others like the Df, D810, D750 etc.

  • Fixed a minor issue regarding the Sekonic RT32-CTL module. You can now use the meter to trigger a remote Speedlight on a FlexTT5 without first having to trigger the remote from a camera.

* Please make sure to update your camera to the latest firmware.

To install PocketWizard ControlTL MiniTT1 / FlexTT5 Nikon Beta Firmware v.3.818, you must enable Beta Firmware access.

PocketWizard Announces Plus IVs Now Available in the US https://www.the-digital-picture.com/News/News-Post.aspx?News=17824&Title=PocketWizard-Announces-Plus-IVs-Now-Available-in-the-US

From PocketWizard:

New Auto-Sensing Transceiver allows photographers to combine on-camera TTL flash with remote manual flash

So. Burlington, VT (March 7, 2016 )– LPA Design, manufacturers of PocketWizard Photo Products, the world leader in reliable wireless control of cameras, flash lighting and light meters, announces that the new PocketWizard Plus IV Transceivers first announced last fall, are now shipping to retailers in the United States.

PocketWizard now offers the best of both worlds in one easy-to-use, reliable wireless trigger. The Plus IV Auto-Sensing Transceiver provides photographers with the benefit of on camera TTL flash combined with remote manual flash. When used as a transmitter, the top shoe provides on camera TTL compatibility with most Canon, Nikon, Panasonic, Fuji and Olympus cameras and flashes. When used as a receiver, the top shoe pairs with virtually any speedlight for easy mounting and manual power adjustment of a remote flash. Built on the reliability and simplicity of the PocketWizard PLUS legacy line of products and loaded with numerous features and functionality, the Plus IV Transceiver is the “go to” radio when a fast set-up is required.

“Serious photographers understand the benefits of controlling the light at the time of exposure, both in-studio and on location,” said Karen Marshall, CEO of LPA Design, the U.S.-based manufacturer and distributor of PocketWizard products. “I’m delighted that PocketWizard engineers have been able to add TTL pass–through, for use with on-camera flash, and a metal foot and applied it to our time-tested technology, offering our users even greater versatility.”

The Plus IV includes performance enhancing features such as Long Range and Repeater Modes to help photographers tackle the most challenging shooting environments, opening the door for never-attempted image ideas. All features, channels and zones can be easily set using the soft-touch keypad and are clearly displayed on the backlit LCD display.

The new Plus IV looks like a Plus III on its side, with the most requested features added in. However, the Plus IV is not a replacement for the Plus III, rather they’ve been designed to complement each other. For example, an ideal set-up might be a Plus IV for on-camera flash in TTL mode, another Plus IV with a speedlight mounted in manual mode and two Plus IIIs connected to studio lights. The Quad-Zone feature in both the Plus IV and the Plus III allows photographers to easily turn their remote flashes on or off directly from the camera, and either create different looks or work in different areas.

The versatile new PocketWizard Plus IV is compatible with all other PocketWizard radios and virtually every popular flash and professional digital SLR camera system. The standard ISO compatible hot shoe can accommodate almost any speedlight for simple manual triggering, including newer Sony models. It also communicates with all PocketWizard-enabled photo gear including select Profoto, Dynalite, Norman and Photogenic flash systems and Sekonic light meters.

The new PocketWizard Plus IV Transceiver is now available at Retailers in the United States at an MSRP of $153.00.

B&H has the PocketWizard Plus IV Transceivers available for preorder.

PocketWizard Utility Beta 1.63 Released with OS X El Capitan Support https://www.the-digital-picture.com/News/News-Post.aspx?News=17522&Title=PocketWizard-Utility-Beta-1-63-Released-with-OS-X-El-Capitan-Support

From PocketWizard:

New Key Features:

Compatibility with Mac OS X El Capitan (10.11.2):

Apple made significant structural changes in OS X El Capitan (10.11) compared to previous versions of the Mac operating system. As a result, PocketWizard Utility beta version 1.63 required significant work to integrate El Capitan’s differences.

Make sure you are using the latest iteration of El Capitan, OS X version 10.11.2. Previous OS X versions of El Capitan, 10.11.0 or 10.11.1, have only received minimal testing with this Utility and will not be tested further. Testing against OS X version 10.11.3, currently in developer and public beta, will commence soon. If you are using 10.11.3, we would appreciate any reports you may have about this Utility’s functionality in that OS.

Utility 1.63 remains reverse-compatible with the previous 5 versions of Mac OS X:

  • Yosemite (10.10)
  • Mavericks (10.9)
  • Mountain Lion (10.8)
  • Lion (10.7)
  • Snow Leopard (10.6)

If your Mac OS X version is Leopard (10.5) or earlier, or you are using a PowerPC-based system, try PocketWizard Utility version 1.54. It will not have the latest features of version 1.63, but should still work for most PocketWizard products with the exception of the Plus III and Plus IV.

Continued compatibility with Microsoft Windows:

Both this beta version 1.63, and the prior official Utility version 1.58, are fully compatible with modern Windows versions:

  • 10 - Version 1511
  • 8.1 – Version 6.3.9600
  • 7 – Version 6.1.7601 (Service Pack 1)

Other versions of the Microsoft OS, like 8 (prior to 8.1), 7 (no service pack), Vista, 2000 and XP were not tested for this release, but the Utility may still function. Operation in these operating systems is not officially supported.

Added support for the PocketWizard Plus IV:

This Utility will be ready to support the PocketWizard Plus IV when it launches (estimated Q1/2016).

Simplified and Improved Workflow:

Based on your feedback, we have incorporated many improvements to streamline the Utility especially around firmware updating:

  • Dramatically simplified firmware updating. Reduced and removed dialogue boxes and buttons to speed the process up, especially when “Advanced Mode” is unchecked
  • Clarified the notification system that reminds you when a firmware update is available
  • New radio firmware is automatically downloaded upon program install and launch if there’s an internet connection available. This speeds the firmware update process for multiple radios and allows for updating later when there may be no internet connection
  • Removed the “Apply Changes” confirmation dialogue. Now, when you click Apply Changes, your settings are immediately updated. Please wait for the radio to reconnect (see it reappear in the Utility) to allow the changes to be completely applied as well as visually verify the changes you just made
  • Reduced, removed, and clarified dialogue boxes in several places
  • Moved Save Profile, Load Profile, and Replicate to the advanced area. Tick the “Advanced Mode” checkbox in the lower left corner (by the blue gear) to reveal these features

Other Improvements:

  • Incorporated the latest security certificates for Mac and Windows operating systems
  • Improved offline operation for a smoother experience when an internet connection is not available. This is in addition to workflow improvements noted above
  • Added a delete feature to the Device Inventory. Device Inventory is located under the Settings Menu. Click the blue gear in the lower left corner to access it. When a radio is deleted from Device Inventory, the information is immediately and permanently deleted
  • Fixed a bug where sometimes the context help window would be empty on some computers
  • Fixed other minor display issues

For full details including installation instructions, please refer to the PocketWizard Beta Utility 1.63 Release Bulletin.

From PocketWizard:

New Auto-Sensing Transceiver allows photographers to combine on-camera TTL flash with remote manual flash.

So. Burlington, VT – October 21, 2015 – LPA Design, manufacturers of PocketWizard Photo Products, the world leader in reliable wireless control of cameras, flash lighting and light meters, announces the new PocketWizard Plus IV Transceiver. The new Plus IV includes all the features and reliability of the Plus III and adds key new functionality. When used as a transmitter, its top shoe provides on-camera TTL compatibility with most Canon, Nikon and Panasonic cameras and flashes. And although testing is not complete, we are optimistic it will work with some Fuji, and Olympus gear. When used as a receiver, you can easily mount and trigger virtually any speedlight in the shoe, set to a manual power level.

“Photographers love the Plus III, but they’ve expressed their desire for a Plus III with a top shoe. So we designed one. We took it a step further and added TTL pass-through for an on-camera flash, and a metal foot. It’s like a Plus III on its side, with the most-requested features added in,” comments Heather Ambrose, PocketWizard Marketing Manager. “The Plus IV is by no means a replacement for the Plus III. They complement each other. An ideal set-up might be a Plus IV for on-camera flash in TTL mode, another Plus IV with a speedlight mounted in manual mode and two Plus IIIs connected to studio lights. The Plus IV features the same Quad-Zone Triggering as the Plus III so you can easily turn any one of those remote flashes on or off directly from the camera, and either create different looks or work in different areas.”

The Plus IV has the performance enhancing features of the Plus III including Long Range and Repeater Modes to help photographers tackle the most challenging shooting environments, opening the door for never-attempted image ideas. Mac OS X El Capitan Note

At this moment, our PocketWizard Utility appears to be incompatible with Mac OS X El Capitan. Something has changed in how they handle USB devices. We're looking into it. In the meantime, you'll either have to refrain from updating to El Capitan to work with the PocketWizard Utility, or find another machine to use it on. We're not the only ones experiencing issues:

Their new System Integrity Protection shifts how things work. It impacts some simple connectivity stuff we've relied upon. We are researching solutions now:

New distribution channel allows LPA Design a closer connection with the photographer.

South Burlington, VT – As the wireless market and the photo industry as a whole continues to become more competitive and challenging, LPA Design, manufacturers of PocketWizard Photo Products, has realized the need to get closer to the photographer and has started selling direct to USA dealers. This change in distribution only affects the US market. LPA Design continues to rely on their network of global distributors and dealers throughout the world. “As we transition to our new sales and marketing approach, we are excited by the possibilities of working more directly with our Dealers and building closer relationships with the community of PocketWizard photographers. We’re exploring the means to hear and respond to our customers in a more direct and informative way. We’ve already heard some comments and suggestions, and are making changes that will offer a range of mutual long term benefits. We’ve had a great partnership with the MAC Group over the past 14 years, as they’ve been integral in building the PocketWizard brand in the US market. We wish them continued success in the future,” commented Heather Ambrose, Marketing Manager at LPA Design.

To spearhead our direct to dealer initiative, we have engaged the services of Lorenzo Gasperini of Inovanti, LLC to represent LPA Design / PocketWizard as our National Sales Manager. Lorenzo has a deep history with PocketWizard which started back in 1994 when he encountered PocketWizard and later joined Bogen Photo (Manfrotto USA) and LPA Design as the first US distributor. In 2000 Lorenzo joined the MAC Group and as the National Marketing Manager he inspired new products, markets and partnerships that lead to significant growth and success for the brand. In 2008 Lorenzo was paramount in building the PocketWizard brand internationally as the International Sales and Marketing Manager. In addition to his responsibilities with PocketWizard, Lorenzo (Inovanti) also works with the Sekonic light meter division and Syrp motion and linear control devices. Lorenzo has a tremendous amount of knowledge in the photographic and video market and will be an asset to the PocketWizard Sales and Marketing Team once again. Custom IDs Now Available on PocketWizard Plus III Radios https://www.the-digital-picture.com/News/News-Post.aspx?News=14310&Title=Custom-IDs-Now-Available-on-PocketWizard-Plus-III-Radios

From PocketWizard:

Sports Photographers around the world can now have Custom IDs installed in their Plus III radios.

So. Burlington, VT – January 16, 2015 – LPA Design, manufacturers of PocketWizard Photo Products, announces the immediate availability of Custom IDs for Plus III radios. In light of the recent retirement of the MultiMAX Transceiver, we felt it was very important to offer a Custom ID solution for Sports Shooters and other photographers who shoot in crowded venues.

What is a Custom ID? It is a private digital code that no one can trigger but you. It is a premium service offered exclusively by PocketWizard. In hyper-crowded shooting environments, such as large sporting events, Custom IDs give you the confidence to know that your remote flash or camera can only be triggered by you and not any other photographer. It is a unique code installed on top of an existing PocketWizard frequency replacing one of your normal Channels with your new custom code and frequency combination.

No other manufacturer offers such a valuable service. Custom ID’s are $95 per ID per unit and this service is only available directly through LPA Design, the manufacturer of PocketWizard products. There is no set-up fee and the customer is responsible for all shipping costs.

Plus III Custom IDs are compatible with MultiMAX Custom IDs. MultiMAX firmware version 7.50 and later has a feature for moving a Custom ID to a different frequency. Plus III Custom IDs are set to fixed frequencies. You will need to match your MultiMAX frequency to the Plus III. Learn more here: http://wiki.pocketwizard.com/index.php?title=Multiuser_Environments

How do you get a Custom ID?

You must first own at least two Custom ID-capable radios like the Plus III or MultiMAX. LPA Design only sells radios through dealers, but the Custom ID service can only be performed at LPA Design (that’s how we guarantee unique IDs). We recommend you buy your Plus III radios from your favorite PocketWizard dealer and drop-ship them directly to LPA Design for Custom ID installation. Please send an email to info@pocketwizard.com with your contact information prior to ordering the radios. We will contact you for payment and final shipping arrangements when we receive your radios.

PocketWizard Announces TTL Compatibility with the Nikon D810, Canon 70D and Others https://www.the-digital-picture.com/News/News-Post.aspx?News=10217&Title=PocketWizard-Announces-TTL-Compatibility-with-the-Nikon-D810-Canon-70D-and-Others

From PocketWizard:

Latest TTL firmware update expands extensive list of compatible cameras making PocketWizard more in sync with what today’s photographers are shooting with.

So. Burlington, VT – August 5, 2014 - LPA Design, manufacturers of PocketWizard Photo Products, the world leader in wireless control of cameras, flash lighting and flash power control with Sekonic light meters, announces today a new update to its ControlTL firmware for both Nikon and Canon versions of its MiniTT1 and FlexTT5 radios. Firmware version 3.700 for Nikon includes compatibility with the recently released D810, D610, D4S and other Nikon cameras. Additionally, firmware version 6.700 for Canon now provides TTL compatibility with the Canon 1D X, 6D and T4i as well as other recently released Canon cameras. See the compatibility list below. Any current owner of the ControlTL system can easily install this version via USB and update for free using the PocketWizard Utility. PocketWizard Utility version 1.54 or later is required before installing this update.

“Not only are we now compatible with all current Canon and Nikon DSLRs, we’ve added resources to our firmware department allowing us to have a significant breakthrough in firmware development. We can react much more quickly to newer cameras entering the market,” said Heather Ambrose, Marketing Director at LPA Design, the company that manufacturers PocketWizard Photo Products. “We received a Nikon D810 two weeks ago and our firmware engineers got right on it. A focused look under the hood and they found that the camera behaved similar to the D4S. After a few iterations of firmware, combined with comprehensive testing, it was determined that the D810 could be added to the current firmware release. This is by far the fastest turnaround we’ve been able to achieve, and we hope to keep this momentum going.”

PocketWizard Retires MultiMAX Transceiver https://www.the-digital-picture.com/News/News-Post.aspx?News=10089&Title=PocketWizard-Retires-MultiMAX-Transceiver

From PocketWizard:

South Burlington, VT - July 17, 2014 - The PocketWizard MultiMAX, our venerable flagship radio product, is being retired effective immediately.

The MultiMAX was born in early 2001 and is just a little older than Windows XP. One of the first digital transceivers in the photo industry, the MultiMAX became the professional choice for over a dozen basketball seasons, seven Olympics, and countless portraits and weddings. Its special mix of technology enabled it to survive the industry’s transition from film to digital. Some of its features, like Custom IDs, True Trigger Confirmation, and Equalization, have never been duplicated. Certainly, the MultiMAX has earned its place in the history of photography.

Today, key parts are no longer being manufactured. Case in point is the LCD which was based on an early flip phone (the Motorola StarTac of the late 1990’s). So, regrettably, we can no longer market the MultiMAX.

Fortunately, the PocketWizard Plus III radio carries on the primary features of the MultiMAX, like 32 channels, Quad-Zone Triggering, Long Range Mode, and Auto-Relay and is fully compatible with the MultiMAX and the entire PocketWizard line.

Stock:
Final orders have shipped. Check with your dealer or distributor for retail availability.

Warranty Repairs:
PocketWizard will honor warranties and perform customer repairs for the next few years. If warranty repairs are unable to be performed due to parts depletion, we will make reasonable efforts to help photographers maintain PocketWizard compatibility by offering alternative product at a special value.

Custom IDs:
The Custom ID service for the MultiMAX will remain available for MultiMAX owners. We will investigate the possibility of implementing Custom IDs in the Plus III or a future radio.

Special Accessories:
All PocketWizard remote camera and flash cables will remain in the product line. MultiMAX specific accessories like PW-CC (Confirmation Cable) and PW-AC-MX (AC Adapter for older 6-pin radios) will no longer be produced, but may still be available at retailers.

If you have a moment, please share your MultiMAX stories on our Facebook page: http://www.facebook.com/pocketwizards

Pocketwizard, Bowens & Sekonic Join Forces https://www.the-digital-picture.com/News/News-Post.aspx?News=9190&Title=Pocketwizard-Bowens---Sekonic-Join-Forces

From Pocketwizard:

Photographers benefit from seamless integration between flash, radio trigger and exposure and lighting control

White Plains, NY – February 28, 2014 – In a joint announcement, Bowens, PocketWizard and Sekonic have aligned to create a complete wireless triggering solution for electronic flashes that will be first introduced in the U.S. market. Now most Bowens Gemini monolights will accept an optional PocketWizard module, which enables photographers to wirelessly trigger their flash with industry-standard, and widely used PocketWizard radios and Sekonic light meters.

Compatible components within the system are Bowens Gemini 500R, 500Pro, 750Pro, 1000Pro & 1500Pro series of monolights with PocketWizard module, all existing PocketWizard radio’s and today’s Sekonic L-478DR and L-758DR exposure meters. In addition, other (earlier) Sekonic meters can be used with an optional PocketWizard transmitter. All take advantage of PocketWizard 32 channels and 4-zone system.

Bowens USA President, Jan Lederman, brought the three technology leaders together to create a powerful alliance for the photographic flash market. When asked what prompted this he responded, “With the rapid advancement of photographic technology in our digital world, it is a natural evolutionary step to marry these technologies. Our goal is to provide a complete wireless environment in which photographers have greater and more accurate control of lighting in a more effortless way.”

To commemorate the alliance, PocketWizard is introducing a new Plus III Transceiver in the “Bowens’ signature yellow” color.

Pricing and Availability

Bowens products are available for purchase and rent from a growing list of specialty camera and video retailers as well as rental houses across the United States.

PocketWizard Announces Hot Shoe to Miniphone Cable https://www.the-digital-picture.com/News/News-Post.aspx?News=7660&Title=PocketWizard-Announces-Hot-Shoe-to-Miniphone-Cable

From PocketWizard:

New hot shoe to miniphone (HSFM3) cable allows photographers to connect any speedlight style flash to a PocketWizard radio, whether it has a PC port or not.

So. Burlington, VT - August 27, 2013 - LPA Design, manufacturers of PocketWizard Photo Products, announces the immediate availability of the new hot shoe to miniphone cable (HSFM3). This three-foot cable, which has a basic (non-TTL) hot shoe on one end and a mono miniphone connector on the other, allows photographers to slide any speedlight style flash into the shoe to avoid using the sometimes unreliable or missing PC port. The miniphone end plugs into either a Plus radio (PlusX, Plus III, Plus II or Plus Receivers), MultiMAX Transceiver or FlexTT5 Transceiver. With another PocketWizard radio on the camera, photographers now have the most reliable triggering setup possible.

"This cable has been long overdue in our line,” says Dave Schmidt, Vice President of Sales and Marketing for PocketWizard. “There are several flashes on the market that skipped the basic PC port making this cable a necessity and the PC port is not known for its reliability. This high-quality cable will provide the connectivity and reliability photographers expect from PocketWizard,” Schmidt added.

Other features of the new HSFM3 include a 1/4-20 socket below the hot shoe, gold plated contacts and robust design to ensure reliability.

Also available is the new locking PC to miniphone adapter (MPCF-L). This handy adapter allows users to convert any cord with a PC connection into a miniphone connection.

PocketWizard Announces New Nikon Power Cable for Use with MiniTT1, Plus III and MultiMAX Radios https://www.the-digital-picture.com/News/News-Post.aspx?News=7157&Title=PocketWizard-Announces-New-Nikon-Power-Cable-for-Use-with-MiniTT1-Plus-III-and-MultiMAX-Radios

From PocketWizard:

New Power Cable (PW-DC-N10) offers greater flexibility for photographers working with Nikon Digital Single-Lens Reflex cameras

So. Burlington, VT– June 19, 2013 – – LPA Design, manufacturers of PocketWizard Photo Products, announces the immediate availability of a new Nikon Power Cable (PW-DC-N10) for use with the PocketWizard MiniTT1 Transmitter, the Plus III and MultiMAX (version with USB port) Transceivers and any Nikon Digital Single-Lens Reflex (DSLR) camera equipped with a Nikon 10-pin remote terminal. The new cable provides a PocketWizard radio, mounted in the camera’s hot-shoe, the power it needs to operate from the camera.

By using the tidy (6-inch long) power cable, Nikon users ensure that their PocketWizard radio is ready when they need it because the camera keeps the Transmitter/Transceiver always awake for the fastest reaction time. And, since these PocketWizard radios use very little power, it has almost no impact on a camera’s battery life. This is especially helpful for users of the MiniTT1, whose coin-cell battery can be hard-to-find when needed.

The Nikon Power Cable (PW-DC-N10) is available now at an estimated retail price of $20.00.

PocketWizard Announces Major ControlTL Firmware Update https://www.the-digital-picture.com/News/News-Post.aspx?News=7100&Title=PocketWizard-Announces-Major-ControlTL-Firmware-Update

From PocketWizard:

Free update provides compatibility with several new cameras and dramatic improvements to HyperSync, further removing the barrier to x-sync limitations.

So. Burlington, VT – June 12, 2013 – LPA Design, manufacturers of PocketWizard Photo Products, the world leader in wireless control of cameras, flash lighting and light meters, announces today a major update to its ControlTL firmware for the MiniTT1, FlexTT5, PowerMC2 and PowerST4 radios and minor updates for the Plus III and MultiMAX radios.

The new ControlTL firmware (version details below) provides compatibility for several new Canon and Nikon cameras, greatly improves the performance of PocketWizard’s exclusive HyperSync feature and resolves bugs in previous versions. It is available now as a free download using the PocketWizard Utility and it is strongly recommended that all current owners of the MiniTT1, FlexTT5, PowerST4 and PowerMC2 update all their radios to the latest firmware for best performance. Any current owner of the ControlTL system can easily install this version via USB connection and update their PocketWizard radios for free. Complete details are available at the PocketWizard website here.

The new firmware includes complete compatibility for the Nikon D600 and D3200 cameras and manual power control compatibility for the Canon EOS 6D, EOS-1D X and EOS Rebel T4i cameras.

In addition to the new camera compatibility, this new firmware version offers significantly improved HyperSync flash performance. This exclusive feature offers photographers the ability to use studio flash well beyond their camera’s normal x-sync speed, for greatly expanded creative control.

“Our PocketWizard HyperSync technology has redefined studio flash photography for those working outdoors,” said Dave Schmidt, Vice President of Marketing at LPA Design, the company that manufacturers PocketWizard Photo Products. “When photographers can go beyond the normal x-sync shutter speed limitation of 1/200 second or so, they can create an entirely new look whether they need to reduce ambient light to achieve shallow depth-of-field, or freeze action, or both, photographers can now do so quickly, simply and with more creative control than ever before.”

Adventure photographer Tom Bol has been using the new firmware in beta version for the past month and had this to say about the latest version, “Performance with the new software in my MiniTT1, FlexTT5 and ST4s is remarkable.” You can read more about what Tom had to say on the ProPhotoCoalition website.

Any owner of PocketWizard MiniTT1, FlexTT5, PowerMC2 or PowerST4 can benefit from the latest firmware. This release also includes several bug fixes found in earlier versions. “Downloading and installing the latest firmware is one of the simplest and smartest things a creative photographer can do,” Schmidt added. “We’ve designed our products to be reliable and upgradable because it allows owners of PocketWizard radios to keep their equipment up-to-date as new cameras, flash units and features are introduced.”

The Plus III and MultiMAX radios also have new firmware. The new firmware for the Plus III resolves some minor bugs. The MultiMAX firmware, which has been available for a while in beta, adds two new features.

PocketWizard Utility version 1.54 or newer is required before installing these updates. For more information on the latest firmware versions and how to update PocketWizard products via USB connection visit: http://www.pocketwizard.com/support/downloads/

PocketWizard Publishes Beta Firmware Release Plan Update https://www.the-digital-picture.com/News/News-Post.aspx?News=4610&Title=PocketWizard-Publishes-Beta-Firmware-Release-Plan-Update

From PocketWizard:

April 10, 2013

So. Burlington, VT – As Canon and Nikon continue to release new cameras and flashes, PocketWizard Photo Products has established an evolving Firmware Release plan for the MiniTT1 and FlexTT5 radios to address compatibility with these new products.

Our current firmware development priorities include compatibility updates, HyperSync improvements and bug fixes. The next beta will include the following:

MiniTT1/FlexTT5 Beta firmware release for Nikon
Compatibility with the following NIKON gear:

  • Nikon D600, Nikon D5200 & Nikon D3200
  • HyperSync Improvements

MiniTT1/FlexTT5 Beta firmware release for Canon
Compatibility with the following CANON gear:

  • Canon 6D & Canon T4i – Manual power control only (no TTL)
  • HyperSync Improvements

PowerMC2 & PowerST4 Beta firmware release with HyperSync Improvements

The Nikon D600 (full-featured) and Canon 6D (manual-only) firmware is in the final testing stages. Some HyperSync enhancements, currently enabled for Canon only, are also in the final testing stages for all our ControlTL radios: MiniTT1 & FlexTT5 for both Canon and Nikon including the AC9 AlienBees Adapter, and the PowerST4 & PowerMC2. This large bundle of firmware could be available in Beta this month if all goes as well as we hope, and available as officially released firmware a few weeks after that. You'll be able to get some serious practice with it well before the heat of the June wedding season.

Ongoing: The latest Canon cameras have an entirely new TTL protocol. This has proven extremely difficult to reverse engineer as is the case with the Canon 1DX. We believe we have found a path to a solution, but it will still take many weeks to validate, implement and test-test-test. There is nothing simple about this. When completed it will be made available as a free update to the ControlTL system, as have all other compatibility updates.

PocketWizard Announces PlusX Transceiver https://www.the-digital-picture.com/News/News-Post.aspx?News=4302&Title=PocketWizard-Announces-PlusX-Transceiver

From PocketWizard:

Simplest PocketWizard ever is ideal entry into the PocketWizard wireless system of products

So. Burlington, VT – March 1, 2013 – LPA Design, manufacturers of PocketWizard Photo Products, the world leader in wireless control of cameras, flash lighting and light meters, today announces the immediate availability of its new PlusX Auto-Sensing Transceiver.

The high-quality PocketWizard PlusX is the perfect entry into the PocketWizard Wireless System with the same range and reliability of its renowned Plus line of radios. Whether new to off-camera flash or remote camera triggering, or a seasoned professional looking to expand their PocketWizard wireless triggering system, the PlusX is the perfect choice. And as the user’s technical needs grow, the versatile PlusX will continue to work with any other PocketWizard radios that a photographer adds to their gear box.

The 10 Channel PlusX uses PocketWizard’s patented “Auto-Sensing Transceiver Technology” which means it will automatically switch between transmit and receive as needed. Users just turn it on, connect it to the flash or camera and set the channel using its simple, rotary-dial. The PlusX automatically figures out what it needs to do to trigger remote flashes or cameras. Using the same side-profile design of the PocketWizard Plus III radio, the PlusX has an internal antenna to minimize obstruction and increase durability.

“The new PlusX transceiver adds to the legendary Plus reliability that so many photographers have come to trust on all their photographic assignments,” said Dave Schmidt, Vice President of Marketing at LPA Design, the company that manufacturers PocketWizard Photo Products. “Working on a budget should not mean sacrificing performance or reliability.”

The PlusX is compatible with all PocketWizard transmitters and receivers including PocketWizard-enabled photo gear from Profoto, Dynalite, Norman, Photogenic and Sekonic light meters. The PocketWizard Wireless System allows for total flexibility with whatever lights or cameras a photographer may be working with.

PlusX Features include:

10 Channels
With the PlusX’s 10 digitally coded Standard Channels, users can claim their own channel for exclusive triggering when working with other photographers at crowded events. Photographers can use different channels for different setups and select them simply and intuitively with the turn of a dial. And these 10 channels are compatible with every PocketWizard ever made1 set to Standard Channels 1 – 10. (1radios of the same frequency; in the United States, the PocketWizard PlusX operates on an FCC-approved frequency of 344MHz. In other markets it operates on a CE-approved frequency of 433MHz)

Backlit Channel Dial
Setting channels is as easy as turning a dial. The backlit channel dial clearly displays the channel and because the backlight consumes so little power it stays on all the time for convenience.

Internal Antenna
The PlusX features a durable, side profile design with an unobtrusive, internal antenna minimizing visual obstruction between the photographer and their subject. By utilizing an internal antenna, there’s no chance to kink or break it when on location. The total height of the transceiver and antenna is 4.2 inches, and it weighs less than 4 ounces, including batteries.

Easily Connected / Cable Port
On the user’s camera, the PlusX slides into the hot shoe with no cables required. For remotes, it features one do-it-all miniphone (3.5mm or 1/8”) sync port. The miniphone connector is much more reliable than a PC connection and every PlusX comes complete with a miniphone-to-miniphone cable, a miniphone-to-phono (1/4" or 6.3mm) adapter for triggering the majority of modern flashes, and a miniphone to locking PC cable for triggering some remote speedlights or for using a PlusX on-camera when the user can’t put it in a hot shoe. Other miniphone connector cables are available for major brands of lighting equipment in a variety of lengths. Dedicated remote camera triggering cables are also available for popular camera systems.

Auto-Sensing Transceiver
With PocketWizard’s patented Auto-Sensing Transceiver technology, the PlusX Transceiver will instantly and intelligently switch between transmitter and receiver modes keeping setup as simple as possible. The PlusX may be set to transmit (Tx) only, when desired.

Auto-Relay Mode
PocketWizard’s Auto-Sensing Transceiver technology lets users trigger a remote camera in sync with remote flashes using only three PocketWizard radios: the one in their hands, a PlusX cabled to a remote camera, and the one connected to a remote flash. The PlusX cabled to a remote camera will receive a radio signal and trigger the camera’s motor drive, then switch to transmit mode and trigger PocketWizard-connected remote flashes, all automatically. The sequence can be started by simply pressing the TEST button of any PocketWizard Transmitter. Remote cameras require remote shutter release cables.

Status Indicator/Battery Life Indicator
The PlusX features a tri-color LED status indicator that serves two functions. When the PlusX sends or receives a triggering signal, the LED will glow red. During normal operation, the indicator will blink a single green blink meaning it is operating normally and the battery life is above 50%. It will blink a double amber blink when the battery is below 50% but above 25% and it will blink three red blinks when the battery life is below 25% and it’s crucial to replace the batteries.

Transmit Only Mode
There are times when a photographer only wants their radio to transmit, usually when two or more photographers are sharing a set of lights. By enabling transmit only mode, users can disable the receive mode and auto relay functions to make sure their radio is just transmitting.

Range and Reliability
PocketWizard Plus radios are known for their range and reliability. Although the PlusX costs less than other PocketWizard radios, users will still get the range and reliability they expect from a PocketWizard product.

Sync Speed
Ultra-fast microprocessors allow for reliable sync speeds of 1/250 seond for focal plane shutters and 1/500 second for leaf shutters.

B&H has the PocketWizard PlusX Transceiver in stock.

PocketWizard Beta Firmware Release Plan Update https://www.the-digital-picture.com/News/News-Post.aspx?News=3794&Title=PocketWizard-Beta-Firmware-Release-Plan-Update

From PocketWizard:

MiniTT1 & FlexTT5 updated beta firmware release plan for new Canon and Nikon Cameras

So. Burlington, VT – As Canon and Nikon continue to release new cameras and flashes, PocketWizard Photo Products has established an evolving Firmware Release plan for the MiniTT1 and FlexTT5 radios to address compatibility with these new products.

The MiniTT1 and FlexTT5 offer a comprehensive list of unique features such as HyperSync, Power Control with an AC3 ZoneController, Optimized Rear Curtain Sync and many others including our legendary broad-based reverse compatibility. These features are what differentiate PocketWizard radios from other wireless triggers. The MiniTT1 and FlexTT5 require specialized programming which is highly dependent on the internal coding of the camera or flash. When a new camera or flash is released, we must reverse engineer the new internal coding to make sure the timing of our features is compatible with the new hardware. This reverse engineering and testing can take anywhere from a few weeks to a few months before it meets our standards and can be released as a beta into the market for further testing. Some gear is easier to reverse engineer than others.

It is important to note that PocketWizard does not receive any inside information from either Nikon or Canon regarding the release of new gear. PocketWizard Photo Products must order new Nikon or Canon gear from a local dealer and wait for it to be shipped. Once the product is received at PocketWizard headquarters in Vermont, it is then thoroughly tested, reversed engineered by our firmware engineers, tested again and then tested yet again for compatibility.

In order to expedite the process, we will be releasing “rolling betas” which will then be rolled into production releases based on feedback during the beta phase. Although we cannot provide specific beta firmware release dates, what we can tell you is that a typical beta period is three to five weeks and a production release should fall shortly thereafter assuming nothing major was discovered during the beta process.

Prioritized rolling BETA release plan for MiniTT1 and FlexTT5 Firmware:

  1. MiniTT1/FlexTT5 BETA firmware release for Canon
    • Compatibility with Canon 1D X Camera*
  2. MiniTT1/FlexTT5 Beta firmware release for Nikon
    • Compatibility with Nikon D600 & Nikon D3200
  3. MiniTT1/FlexTT5 Beta firmware release for Canon
    • Compatibility with Canon T4i & Canon 6D

* Please note that the BETA firmware release for the Canon 1D X will have limited compatibility. The firmware release will include Manual Power Control and Manual HSS and HyperSync®. The beta release firmware for the Canon 1D X will not have the capability to perform TTL exposures.

The schedule above represents our BETA release plan. We will make decisions about official PRODUCTION releases as we go, depending on reverse engineering progress and field reports.

We intend to update the Nikon and Canon compatibility pages on wiki.pocketwizard.com on a regular basis. Any updates to the firmware release plan will also be updated on Facebook and Twitter.

From PocketWizard:

Status of 5D Mark III Compatibility with MiniTT1 and FlexTT5

So. Burlington, VT – August 27, 2012 - We have a version of the ControlTL firmware that includes compatibility for the 5D Mark III that is very promising. We are hard at work testing it with both the 5D Mark III and all the other previously compatible Canon cameras, flashes, and transmitters. Please keep in mind, the beta and the official release must be compatible with all currently supported cameras in addition to the 5D Mark III - we cannot separate one version out for just one particular camera.

Testing is going well and we are making progress every day. That being said a bug could pop up at any given moment and delay the release of the firmware. To complete our testing as quickly as possible we have dropped all other tasks in our support office to get this testing done. This means we’re not answering the phone, not responding to emails and not answering questions on Facebook for a few days. Although we are hopeful to have a release within the next couple of weeks, we cannot give any definite date on when this firmware will be available.

We are just as eager to provide full support for the 5D Mark III as you are to employ it in your photography. We recognize the popularity and importance of this camera and we fully appreciate the impact that this has on your workflow. Our goal is to deliver firmware that you will have confidence in.

PocketWizard Offers Upgrade to Custom ID MultiMAX Owners https://www.the-digital-picture.com/News/News-Post.aspx?News=2452&Title=PocketWizard-Offers-Upgrade-to-Custom-ID-MultiMAX-Owners

From PocketWizard:

Special 2012 Summer Olympics MultiMAX Upgrade

Special 2012 London Summer Olympics Upgrade Offer for Custom ID owners with older MultiMAX radios

So. Burlington, VT - LPA Design, manufacturer of PocketWizard Photo Accessories, is announcing a special MULTIMAX UPGRADE offer exclusively to Custom ID owners.

Special London Olympics Offer:

If you own an older PocketWizard radio with a Custom ID in it, you should take advantage of this special offer to upgrade to the latest MultiMAX. A modern MultiMAX has the following benefits for the Olympics:

  • A USB port for firmware upgrades – we are working on a new firmware to help in multi-user Olympic environments
  • The ability to move your Custom ID to a different frequency. Older radios had the Custom ID pinned to one frequency - if the frequency was crowded you might miss triggers. The latest MultiMAX allows you to move among the available frequencies in your MultiMAX to move away from interference.
  • An ACC port for controlling the “half press” of your remote camera
  • And more!

From now until July 31st, you can upgrade your older Custom ID radio to a modern MultiMAX for $195. Just send your Custom ID radio to LPA Design and we will take care of the rest.

How do you know if you have an older MultiMAX? Hold down “A” on power-up – if your MultiMAX displays version 6.xx or earlier, you could benefit from an upgrade!

This offer is only available for MultiMAX or MAX radios with Custom IDs already installed. It is not for Plus, Plus II, Plus III, etc. This offer is only available directly from LPA Design.

This new simple but powerful radio provides professional and serious amateur photographers with the most reliable triggering system which they will never outgrow and never want to be without.

Performance enhancing features include Long Range Mode and Repeater Mode to help photographers tackle the most challenging shooting environments and open the door for never-attempted image ideas. All features, channels and zones can be easily set using the soft-touch keypad and are clearly displayed on the backlit LCD display. *

PocketWizard ControlTL Firmware 5.15 Released https://www.the-digital-picture.com/News/News-Post.aspx?News=246&Title=PocketWizard-ControlTL-Firmware-5-15-Released

Firmware 5.15 Corrects Data Table Issue in 5.10

"We recently released the latest official ControlTL firmware, version 5.10. Based on continued internal testing and feedback from users, it appears that a couple of the exposure and timing data tables became corrupted somewhere in the process. We’ve had reports of improper exposures with several camera models as well as shutter clipping with the 1Ds Mark III and 1D Mark IV. We have corrected the tables and the revised firmware is available as version 5.15 and can be downloaded via the PocketWizard Utility now.

We recommend upgrading to 5.15 as soon as you can.

The manual addendum for v5.10 is still the same for v5.15."
