Think Tank Photo StreetWalker Pro Review

Think Tank Photo StreetWalker Pro
In-Depth Review

To help with a promotion, Think Tank Photo sent me a StreetWalker Pro for review. I love Think Tank Photo's always-high-quality cases, so I'm always excited to try out a new one. What made this particular case especially exciting to me was Think Tank Photo's product description headline: "Fits most 400 f2.8 lenses with a pro size DSLR body attached."

Think Tank Photo StreetWalker Pro with 400mm f/2.8 Lens and Pro Body

I've been carrying my camera-mounted 400mm f/2.8 lens in a backpack, but in a much larger one. Sporting events are my most common use for this lens, and I often want to carry only a couple of items in addition to the camera and lens. Specifically, a monopod, my WalkStool and a water bottle.

The Think Tank Photo StreetWalker Pro is sized just right for this camera and lens combination in the main cargo area. My monopod pocket-and-strap-attaches to the back of the pack, the water bottle goes in a side pouch and the WalkStool goes in the other side pouch.

Carrying this amount of weight is best done with the weight falling evenly over your body, so the backpack-style case fits this requirement as well.

Off to the races. My first two outings were full day track and field events where I was not always shooting, but always needed the gear with me. And when shooting, I needed the pack on my back. The pack is compact enough that everyone passing by was not bumping into me (especially important when you are shooting) and, after wearing the pack for hours, I found the StreetWalker Pro to be very comfortable - including from a temperature standpoint thanks to the incorporated air channel. My thoughts were the same after using the StreetWalker Pro at some soccer matches.

The contoured, high quality straps (designed for both men and women) and back padding are largely responsible for the comfort and fit of this pack. The padded top handle makes the case easy to hand-hold and the flat bottom allows the case to sit vertically.

The contoured overall design is partially responsible for the relatively compact size of the case (international travel carry-on compliant). The web waist belt can be removed completely - and the Think Tank Photo Pro Speed Belt can optionally be used instead.

I especially like how the shape of the case makes the mounted camera readily accessible when the zipper is opened. The zippers themselves are strong, large and work very easily. The zippers are not a water-proof style, but a rain cover is provided in a small pouch for full rain protection.

I discussed my primary and immediate intended purpose for the Think Tank Photo StreetWalker Pro, but there are many other gear configuration options available. Below is one such example.

Think Tank Photo StreetWalker Pro Open with Gear

The StreetWalker Pro can hold a mounted 70-200mm f/2.8 Lens with the hood in ready-to-shoot position.

Two zippered pockets are provided on the back for stowing your small items and another pocket is available on each side of the case. Pouches (great for small-medium-sized cell phones) and attachment points are provided on the shoulder straps.
