Ritz Interactive Files for Bankruptcy
Ritz Interactive has filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy protection.

"Until as recently as 2007, Ritz Interactive, No. 171 in the Internet Retailer Top 500 Guide, was putting up annual web sales of as much as $111 million and operated more than a dozen niche e-commerce sites.

"But a sour economy, problems with inventory and other factors have caused Ritz Interactive to file for Chapter 11 bankruptcy protection in the U.S. Bankruptcy Court for the Central District of California. Ritz Interactive, which owns and operates RitzCamera.com and other sites, isn’t talking publically about its bankruptcy filing. It’s also unclear how Ritz Interactive intends to restructure."

Jill-e Designs Introduces New Bags
Jill-e Designs press release:

New Carry Bags From Jill-e® Designs Offer Panache With a Purpose

The new Jill-e® Designs E-GO™ collection of carry bags makes it easy for female professionals to accessorize for success.

(Orlando, Florida)-August 29, 2011-Accessorizing for success just became easier. Jill-e® Designs, the leading maker of sophisticated camera and carry bags for today’s technology-rich lifestyle, announced the availability of E-GO™, an exciting new line of bags created specifically to meet the needs of the contemporary, fast-paced and cutting-edge woman.

Balancing fashion, form and function, the new E-GO line offers a professional, stylish solution for everyone, from the career woman rushing to board a plane without getting caught up in a gadget bag barrage to the working mother trying to keep her multiple electronic devices organized alongside her lifestyle essentials. The E-GO line of carry bags provides women with a convenient, one-bag option to help them protect and organize the tools of their trade without compromising on style.

“Most everything we do today is technology-driven. No matter where we go, we tend to be most comfortable when our cell phone is in hand and our other devices like iPods, cameras and laptops are in reach,” said Jill-e president and co-founder, Gail Backal. “The bags in the new E-GO collection give women a stylish, secure option to help hold it all, keep it safe—and look good at the same time.”

Offering strategic protection within a stylish silhouette, the versatile E-GO bags provide a chic, feminine alternative to traditional carry bags, which are primarily designed with the male executive in mind. The new collection offers six high-quality carry bags featuring smart and sassy plaid designs in black or tan, each with durable leather trim. All bags are weather resistant and include padded compartments for electronics as well as zippered pockets for personal items.

E-GO Bags include:

E-GO Laptop Valise: An extra-large “shopper” that fits up to a 14” laptop and a camera with zippered pockets and other compartments for daily essentials

E-GO Laptop Satchel: A stylish gadget bag to accommodate a 12” laptop, a camera and personal items with a top zipper closure for extra security

E-GO Tablet Messenger: Convenient cross-body styling that holds up to a 10” tablet, e-reader or netbook with room for other daily essentials, and includes two roomy front pockets for a smartphone, keys and other need-it-now items

E-GO Laptop Tote: A north/south tote to hold a 15” laptop, notebook, camera and everyday necessities

E-GO Essential Camera Bag: Offers full protection with adjustable padded dividers for today’s compact system cameras and personal items

E-GO Wristlet: Great for a day or night out on the town, offering full protection for a smartphone, point-and-shoot camera or MP3 player and personal items

“Jill-e has become the leader in fashionable carry bags for anyone who’s carrying electronic devices that they don’t want rattling around unprotected—for those who care a little more about taking care of these fragile instruments,” Backal commented. “You can take it with you, and Jill-e’s new E-GO line allows busy working women to do it with style and class while safeguarding these valuable devices.”

Jill-e Designs expects to introduce the first of the E-GO line to the public this fall through the Jill-e website and at select retail outlets such as Adorama, Amazon, B&H and eBags.

Delkin Ships World's Fastest CF Memory Card
Delkin press release:

Delkin Ships Fastest CF Memory Card in the World.

Poway, CA. August 24, 2011 – Today Delkin Devices, Inc. announced their much anticipated ruggedized waterproof CF memory cards boasting the fastest read and write speeds in the world. The new cards are available in capacities ranging from 8GB up to 64GB and are capable of transferring pictures, video, music and more at speeds up to 685X, or 103MB/s. In addition to impressive speed performance, the cards are fully compatible with advanced HD and 3D video recording modes including slow motion recording.

“Since we launched our initial CombatFlash lineup of CF cards in 2010 we’ve had fantastic success among professional photographers and videographers,” explains Marketing Manager, Anna Lopez. “Unlike a traditional CF memory card, the CombatFlash PCB is protected with a Tekta infusion process that enables the card to achieve phenomenal reliability and performance in environments where a normal CF card would typically fail. The card is protected from underwater submersion, solid impact, corrosion, rust & more. That reliability equals a day of production that doesn’t need to be reshot, or a climb up Mount Everest that is captured reliably. It equals invaluable peace of mind.”

The new CombatFlash685 card includes the same ruggedized qualities as it’s 625X predecessor, but adds more than 10MB/s in speed performance and the ability to shoot in over cranking mode (or slow motion recording) with Canon’s XF series HD camcorders, including the trending XF305, XF300, XF105 and XF100 models.

Lopez states, “Sophisticated cinema recording applications like Slow & Fast Motion and HD infrared capabilities are increasingly being utilized on a regular basis. Delkin’s US engineering staff is consistently heightening their standards to not only keep up with the evolving equipment, but to also anticipate future breakthroughs that will require exceedingly fast and high quality memory.”

Delkin’s CombatFlash memory remains the only consumer flash storage brand built to comply with MIL-STD-810 specification. Extreme environmental testing has rated the CombatFlash CF line to remain fully operable anywhere between 0°C to 70°C, while soldered and sealed internal components and advanced wear leveling & error correction features manage data continuously to ensure data integrity and card longevity.

CombatFlash685 CF memory is supported by Delkin’s trusted lifetime warranty and U.S. based support center, available by phone on working days between 8am-5pm PST. This innovative product, along with Delkin’s complete lineup of imaging accessories, can be found at digital camera retailers worldwide, as well as direct from www.delkin.com for retail prices ranging from $149.99 for an 8GB card to $899.99 for a 64GB card. CombatFlash 625X memory is also available for purchase for a limited time, with 4-16GB capacities retailing from $79.99–$229.99.

Earthquake in Pennsylvania
Breaking News: I'm sitting at my desk in central Pennsylvania with 6" of concrete under me. The concrete just rippled enough to very noticeably shake my heavy glass and steel desk. Fortunately there appears to be no damage here.

I was on the phone with my Adorama rep at the time and conveyed to him what was happening. He was in disbelief until moments later it hit New York City also. Twitter is alive with the news.

Modifying the Canon EF 8-15mm L USM Fisheye Lens Cap
Rob asked me to share his Canon EF 8-15mm f/4 L USM Fisheye Lens Cap modifcation with you:

Canon EF 8-15mm f/4 L USM Fisheye Lens Cap Modifcation

" ... I modified the lens cap of the 8-15 4.0L fisheye lens with two small pieces of Velcro (only the soft part). The result is very satisfying! The lens cap won’t fall of anymore even when one presses one or both clips." (thanks Rob)

Rob modified his original Canon EF 15mm f/2.8 Fisheye Lens cap in a similar way - using much more velcro for that mod.

Refurbished Canon 600mm L IS and 800mm L IS Lenses at B&H, Used Lenses
Completing list of refurbished Canon super telephoto lenses available right now are the Canon EF 600mm f/4 L IS and 800mm f/5.6 L IS Lenses in stock at B&H.

B&H also has an unusual number of used Canon lenses available right now (look for the "Buy Used" links on the right side of the page). I'm not a big fan of buying used lenses (though I love refurbished gear), but a used lens transaction does not get safer than through B&H.

New Option for Complete Site Index at Bottom of All Pages
Some of you have expressed the desire to have the complete site index shown at the bottom of all pages as it had been. This feature is now optional.

I added a small on/off icon (Show complete site index at bottom of page) beside the "Site Index" menu option on the navigation bar at the bottom of each page. Clicking on this icon toggles the bottom-of-the-page site index on and off. The sample image just shown is live - it will enable the index.

The site should then remember your choice on all pages except the home page, which does not include this feature (due to technical difficulties).

Updated: Drobo and Online Backup Options
I would like to address a couple of comments I received regarding my failed hard drive.

First, Jeff suggested using an online backup service.

This is a great option as long as you have the bandwidth available to make uploads happen in a reasonable amount of time. You are of course trusting that the online storage service provider will both remain in business for the duration of your backup needs (I've seen them fold) and that they will properly secure your files so they are really there when you need them (I've seen entire accounts disappear).

The costs for online backup services vary and should be examined. In some cases, you can buy a new external drive each month and ship it to a friend for the monthly cost of storing your files. Online backup has an availability advantage over a distant friend or family member's house, but downloading 1TB of image files is going to take a while over all but the biggest pipes.

I use Amazon's S3 service for website image serving and for non-image file backups.

The "Get a DROBO" suggestion from Christopher is another good one.

DROBO makes external RAID (Redundant Array of Inexpensive Disk) enclosures. Configured as a RAID-5 array, the DROBO utilizes the equivalent of one drive to store parity bits from the other drives (you lose this storage space). Because of this, the DROBO (and other RAID 5 arrays) can withstand one drive failure without any data loss.

I have not used a DROBO, but these drive arrays typically can keep working with a single failed drive. Install a replacement drive and the array rebuilds itself. Performance may suffer until the failed drive is replaced and the array is rebuilt, but no data is lost and immediate access to files remains.

RAID 1 (mirrored) drives take data protection one step farther, giving you complete drive redundancy. RAID 1 configurations can withstand failure of up to 1/2 of the drives - as long as they are all on one side of the mirror (unfortunately, Murphy's Law always kicks in here).

Performance is typically a big benefit these drives offer as the data is striped over all the drives, multiplying the disk arms available for reading and writing data. You will see this difference when using a fast attachment method such as USB 3.0, eSATA and FireWire 800.

While I think RAID 1 and RAID 5 are great options, I KNOW that they (and any other storage method) are alone, not enough. I have worked heavily in enterprise-level IT and have seen enough RAID arrays get corrupted to scare me. I have also seen multiple drives in an array fail at the same time. RAID arrays do not protect from fire or theft - or viruses. You NEED an off-site backup.

As I said before, I have not used a DROBO, but they are generally well regarded. You buy an empty enclosure and add compatible drives or buy them together in a kit. There are $100 mail in rebates available on some of the DROBO configurations right now.

Here are the DROBO enclosures at B&H.

Thanks for the comments!

Update:

I incorrectly referred to mirroring as RAID 0 instead of RAID 1. RAID 0 is striping only and offers no protection (only performance improvements). Protective RAID options are 1, 3, 5 and 10.

When shipping a drive, be sure to pack it well to insure no damage in transit. Hand delivery may be a better option. Testing the drive at the recipient location will insure data integrity.

I'm hearing of some trouble stories with DROBO drives. You might want to research this option more thoroughly before making a decision.

Thanks again for the comments (sent via email and Facebook).

My Hard Drive Just Failed
Ironic that, less than three weeks after my "Your Hard Drive Just Failed" post, one of my hard drives failed. The vendor is replacing the drive under warranty, but had my files not been backed up, I would be in a very bad situation.

I know that some of you moved on my suggestion to use external hard drives for your backups after my last post, but I also know that most people are not adequately backing up their files. If you are in this category, the time to backup is now.

Here are the external hard drives at B&H.

Updated: B&H has the Hoya 77mm Circular Polarizing Pro 1 Filter for $140 Shipped
B&H has the Hoya 77mm Circular Polarizing Pro 1 Digital Multi-Coated Glass Filter for $140 shipped - a good quality filter at a good price.

Update: After posting this deal, I received this note from a reader:

"Amazon has the same filter for $99."

My response was similar to this:

I saw that too – but I’m concerned about the super low price along with a retailer, PlusDigUSA, that I don’t recognize. Crawford's Superstore and danicamera are also unknown-to-me retailers listed on that page with the same price. Most specifically, I’m concerned that, if these are the same specific filters, the product could be counterfeit – a big problem in the filter market right now.

In another listing on Amazon.com, Crawford's Superstore (again), has this filter for $139.99. I am not familiar with this retailer – and am wondering why they are selling on both pages with significantly different pricing if the item is identical.

The third page on Amazon.com for this filter is from a retailer named Dbroth. I have heard of this retailer before - they are likely trustworthy. Their price is the normal $186.00 - though they include a useful LensPen and a blower.

Adorama has the same $186.00 price.

I fully trust that B&H is selling the real filter – and the price $140.00 appears to be a good one to me. Hopefully that clarifies this question.

Nikon lifts outlook on cameras, sticks to chip stepper target

"Aug 10 (Reuters) - Japan's Nikon Corp said on Monday it now expects unit sales of digital SLR cameras to jump 26 percent in the year to March 2012 to 5.4 million units, instead of its May forecast of a slight gain.

Nikon, which competes against Canon , also said it now expects compact camera sales to rise by 9 percent to 15.5 million units and sales of interchangeable lenses to grow 20 percent to 7.6 million units."

Nikon outlook breezes past expectations, cameras strong

"(Reuters) - Japan's Nikon Corp (7731.T) raised its forecast above market expectations on record sales of cameras and solid demand for LCD steppers used to make smartphone and tablet PC screens.

Nikon, which competes with market leader Canon Inc (7751.T) and Sony Corp (6758.T) in digital cameras, said on Monday it now expects to earn an operating profit of 86 billion yen ($1.1 billion) in the year to March 2012, up 27 percent from its previous forecast and beating the consensus estimate of 74 billion yen from 19 analysts polled by ThomsonReuters Starmine.

Sales and profit on digital SLRs, interchangeable lenses and compact cameras were the highest for an April-June quarter, despite a historically strong yen biting into profits.

Like Canon, which also lifted its forecast, Nikon said it was helped by a quicker-than-expected recovery from supply chain halts after Japan's March 11 earthquake."

SAN DIEGO--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Delkin Devices, Inc., leading supplier of industrial solid state storage products, announces the production release of 32GB and 64GB high performance, extended temperature CompactFlash cards. Delkin is the first manufacturer to offer 64GB CF cards with an operating temperature range of -40 to +85°C, through the use of single-level cell (SLC) NAND flash. Complementing their industrial-grade ruggedness, the Delkin 32GB and 64GB CF cards also deliver high speed performance, reading up to 105 MB/second and writing up to 95 MB/second.

“Delkin has taken CompactFlash to the next level by leveraging the latest advances in NAND technology and our 25 years as a leader in industrial storage”.

In addition to their enhanced environmental specifications, Delkin’s SLC cards are up to ten times more durable than multi-level cell (MLC) flash cards, delivering over two million program/erase cycles. Delkin has engineered these cards to deliver the maximum capacity, speed, endurance and temperature tolerance, as well as shock and vibration resistance, to meet the demands of industrial applications in harsh environments.

“Delkin has taken CompactFlash to the next level by leveraging the latest advances in NAND technology and our 25 years as a leader in industrial storage,” stated James Grassman, Delkin Vice President of Sales and Business Development. “The new 32GB and 64GB cards are ideal for applications requiring large storage capacity and high speed data transfer in extreme conditions, while maintaining the ease of integration of the trusted CompactFlash form factor,” he added.

Delkin Devices industrial-grade flash products, including the new 32GB and 64GB high performance extended temperature CF cards, are manufactured in the USA with controlled bills of materials to ensure a consistent solution and reliable performance.

Canon Project Imagin8ion Winners Announced
From Canon USA:

Canon U.S.A. And Ron Howard Select Eight Winners From 96,362 Photo Entries For 'Project Imagin8ion'

"Project Imagin8ion," the First Hollywood Film in History Inspired by a User-Generated Photo Contest, Will Begin Production in September

NEW YORK, August 4, 2011 – Canon U.S.A., Inc., a leader in digital imaging, has collaborated with one of Hollywood's most influential directors, Ron Howard, to select the eight winners of the "Project Imagin8ion" contest from 96,362 submissions. Launched on May 22, photographers of all levels were invited to submit their most imaginative photographs based on a series of eight separate movie themes, each one a core tenet of storytelling, to ultimately inspire Ron Howard's short film. The "Project Imagin8ion" film will be directed by one of today's most versatile and dynamic young talents, Bryce Dallas Howard. The eight winning photographs can now be seen at www.youtube.com/imagination.

The winners chosen span in age from 20 to 44 years old and are from across the country. They include:

Walter Arnold of Hendersonville, N.C., winner in the SETTING category for the photo, "The Final View"

Jen Berry of Los Angeles, winner in the CHARACTER category for the photo, "Dreams"

Mikey L'Heureux of Tarzana, Calif., winner in the MOOD category for the photo, "City Lights"

Brooke Shaden of Canoga Park, Calif., winner in the TIME category for the photo, "Running From Wind"

Alan Michael Martelly of Peachtree City, Ga., winner in the GOAL category for the photo, "My Word"

Lexia Frank of Wesley Chapel, Fla., winner in the RELATIONSHIP category for the photo, "Too Much"

Chris Wehner of Broken Arrow, Okla., winner in the OBSTACLE category for the photo, "Yea, Though I Walk"

Kelly Shipp of Conway, Ark., winner in the category of THE UNKNOWN for the photo, "Where One Day Ends, One Day Begins"

"This project has opened my eyes to the infinite possibilities of tapping into a larger community for creative inspiration," said Ron Howard. "As I selected the photographs, the story started to take shape using these building blocks to drive the tone and narrative possibilities. I was handed this challenge by Canon and I'm very interested to see how this exercise plays out with Bryce now taking charge to direct a film that is very much influenced by these eight photos."

Ron Howard, Bryce Dallas Howard and Freestyle Productions are currently working with the eight winning photos to craft the story, develop the script and produce a short film using Canon DSLR products. The film goes into production in September and will premiere later this year in New York City, where the winners will be invited to a red carpet event and have the opportunity to meet Ron Howard.

"Our goal was to launch a long-term campaign that demonstrates how Canon's technology enables artistry among photographers of all levels, championing the imagination of the masses," said Yuichi Ishizuka, executive vice president and general manager, Imaging Technologies & Communications Group, Canon U.S.A. "The number of entries has by far surpassed our expectations and we know the finished product, 'A Ron Howard Production,' will be a truly beautiful film, one that would never have been made without the enthusiastic online community."

Grey New York, Canon's agency partner for over thirty years, continues to develop the creative and digital elements of the multiphase campaign that will go beyond the short film. Alliance, the entertainment and lifestyle marketing division of Grey, is managing the partnership with Ron Howard and Bryce Dallas Howard.

Your Hard Drive Just Failed!
Your hard drive just failed. What have you lost?

The odds are that this is an event that you will experience - perhaps multiple times. I find it hard to believe the number of people not backing up their important files - especially their pictures. I was talking to someone last night that had not made a backup in over 8 months.

I minimally recommend that you have three copies of all of your files. One copy lives on your computer's hard drive, one resides on an external backup hard drive that remains at your home/office and another copy on an external backup hard drive that is taken somewhere offsite - perhaps to a family member's house. My backup plan is much more thorough than this strategy, but again, I said "minimally recommend".

Remember that a backup plan is not a one time event. You MUST backup regularly - including rotating a fresh copy to the offsite storage location.

If your hard drive failed right now, would you lose anything important to you?

If your backup plan is not all it should be, here is a deal for you:

Amazon.com has the small Western Digital My Passport Essential SE 1 TB USB 3.0/2.0 Ultra Portable External Hard Drive (Black) on sale for only $79.99 shipped. I have over a dozen of these - they work great.

PMA Announces 2012 PSPA/SPAA Conference Dates
From PMA:

PSPA/SPAA conference dates set for Feb. 18-19, 2012

School portrait and sports/event photographers return to Las Vegas following successful 2011 event

JACKSON, Mich. – PMA – The Worldwide Community of Imaging Associations announces two member associations, the Professional School Photographers Association International™ (PSPA™) and the Sports Photographers Association of America (SPAA®), will hold their annual meetings at the Renaissance Hotel Las Vegas, Las Vegas, Nev., in February, 2012. The event begins Friday, Feb. 17, with a kick-off reception, and PSPA and SPAA programming will be held Saturday and Sunday, Feb. 18-19, 2012.

Conference attendees can attend without charge the Wedding & Portrait Photographers International (WPPI) trade show, Feb. 20-23, 2012, at the MGM Grand Hotel, Las Vegas, Nev.

In 2011, nearly 560 attendees spent two full days attending sessions, luncheons, and receptions. The show also included a Vendor Reception, which many members cite as a highlight, says 2011-2012 PSPA President Bill Glover of Strawbridge Studios Inc.

"Overall, the response to the [2011] show was overwhelmingly positive,” says Glover. “There were lots of familiar faces but also many new ones as well. I love the turnout we had, and the tracks were well-received.”

“PMA remains committed to these two important photographer groups,” says Ted Fox, executive director, PMA. “This arrangement allows PMA to continue to provide industry-specific educational and networking opportunities at this more convenient timeframe to these important industry segments.”

SPAA Committee members are enthusiastic as well with the announcement, heading into their 6th annual conference since joining as a member association of PMA.

"Those of us working in sports photography as a career are hungry for information and embrace the opportunity to exchange ideas with fellow industry colleagues," says Tom Hayes, Visual Image Photography Inc., Cedarburg, Wis., and chairperson, SPAA committee. “We are going to have a focused group of photographers and vendors meeting together, networking, and figuring out together how to make our respective businesses and industries prosper."

Captain America: The First Avenger - Action Shots Captured With Canon EOS 5D Mark II
Canon USA has announced:

"Captain America: The First Avenger" Action Shots Captured With Canon EOS 5D Mark II Digital SLR Cameras

Full 1080P HD Capture, 24p Frame Rate and Canon EF Lenses Provide Compatibility and Creative Options for Movie Production

LAKE SUCCESS, N.Y., August 1, 2011 – Canon U.S.A., a leader in digital imaging, announced today that the highly anticipated feature film, "Captain America: The First Avenger", used Canon EOS 5D Mark II Digital SLR cameras to capture many of the movie's action shots. Throughout the super hero action picture, the 5D Mark II was used to shoot motion sequences that were seamlessly integrated with the production's 35mm film footage.

More compact and lightweight than traditional motion-picture cameras, the 5D Mark II offers creative advantages such as compatibility with Canon's wide range of high-performance EF lenses, user-selectable frame rates, including 24p (23.976 fps), the standard for motion-picture cinematography, and full 1920 x 1080 HD imagery captured by the camera's high-resolution 21.1-megapixel (36mm by 24mm) Canon CMOS sensor. According to Jonathan Taylor, second unit director/director of photography on "Captain America: The First Avenger", these features made the 5D Mark II an excellent choice for the capture of dramatic POV (point-of-view) action shots.

"The challenge with a lot of action photography is getting the camera in the right position," Taylor noted. "I'm always looking to get the camera into impossible to reach places because those kinds of shots make action sequences much more exciting. Most 35mm motion-picture cameras and even the leading digital cinematography cameras are just too big to get into interesting positions."

Action scenes in "Captain America: The First Avenger" in which Taylor used 5D Mark II cameras for POV shots include a car chase and crash, and a high-speed motorcycle pursuit. The small size of the camera enabled Taylor to mount it on the interiors and exteriors of moving vehicles to capture dramatic action shots. The camera's size also ensured that it was "invisible" to the film cameras shooting the same scene from a distance.

"The thing with action is that the more angles you can shoot, the faster the cuts you can use, and the more energy you get into a sequence," Taylor added.

Previously, the Canon EOS 5D Mark II cameras and EF lenses were used for action shots in the blockbuster hit "Iron Man 2".

Since the pouches are modular, the carrying system can be reconfigured to match any assignment, under any condition. Our Modular Component Systems feature:

Rotation: The ability to rotate or slide component bags individually around a belt. Rotating the bags periodically during the event not only allows access to gear, but makes the belt more comfortable since the position of the weight is changed.

Capacity: Bags that accommodate the width and depth of fast lenses such as the 16-35 f2.8, 24-70 f2.8 and 70-200 f2.8.

Speed: The ability to change lenses quickly. Having an open top is the fastest way to pull a lens from the pouch. No need to contend with a flap, or zippered, buckled enclosures.

Here is the list of Modular sets and individual components you can purchase at a 20% savings:

Vimeo Launches Pro Video Hosting Service
Vimeo has announced a new Pro Video Hosting Service:

New Vimeo PRO Service Combines High Quality Video Hosting With Business-focused Features for Small Businesses at a Yearly Rate of $199

NEW YORK, Aug. 1, 2011 /PRNewswire/ -- Vimeo®, an operating business of IAC (NASDAQ: IACI), building on their reputation as the home for high quality video sharing today launched Vimeo PRO. The new Vimeo PRO account is the easiest and one of the most affordable professional video hosting solutions for small businesses available. The product will go live on the site today at 1:00pm Eastern.

Online video continues to experience explosive growth. Recent predictions(1) show that video will account for 50% of all consumer Internet traffic by the end of 2012. Nearly 60 percent of viewers(2) watch video before reading text on the same webpage and are more likely to make a purchase. This year, 83 percent of small businesses plan to use social media channels for their business(3). With the web rapidly moving from text to video, small businesses need to adapt to the shift in technology or quickly become irrelevant or less impactful to their consumers who expect to see video everywhere online.

"Until now, quality video hosting has been expensive, confusing, and extremely difficult for a small business owner to understand. Small businesses have fallen between the cracks of free video services and massive enterprise video solutions," said Dae Mellencamp, Vimeo's General Manager. "Vimeo PRO resolves the contradiction that best-of-breed video quality and hosting can also be easy and affordable."

Vimeo developed its PRO account, which will exist as a separate service outside of the Vimeo.com community, based on demand for a cost-effective video-hosting service equipped with core features that meets the growing needs of small businesses. It's priced at $199 for 50GB of storage and 250,000 plays as a flat annual fee. Customers can purchase increased storage capacity in 50GB increments for $199. Businesses can also purchase additional plays in increments of 100k for $199. Vimeo PRO is one of the most affordable professional video hosting solutions on the market.

Enabling small businesses to compete with larger companies, Vimeo PRO offers robust product features including exceptional video quality, customizable Portfolio websites, extensive video player customization, Video Review Pages, advanced statistics, social media sharing and broad privacy settings. Production companies will be able to create many separate portfolios and share rough cuts with clients. Restaurants can show their atmosphere and signature dish preparation online to potential diners. Real estate agents can provide home hunters with higher quality housing previews. And, even doctors can create private groups to educate patients and medical students.

Customers can upload up to a 5GB file at a time with no time limits and Vimeo will not run any advertising over their videos. Coupled with its current array of popular features like HD and HTML5 video, full tablet, mobile and connected TV support, and Vimeo Video School, Vimeo PRO provides all the major tools small businesses need to host videos online. In addition, Vimeo PRO accounts can opt-in to the Community Pass, which is a feature that allows PRO accounts to interact with the Vimeo.com community as long as the account and each individual video abide by the community guidelines.

Current Model Canon Super Telephotos Leaving the Shelves
The current Canon super telephoto lenses are leaving the store shelves. Not as in going out of stock (yet), but as in people deciding that the current models are excellent and, while expensive, far less expensive than the version II models.

Going out of stock is going to happen for these lenses at some point. If you are considering adding a super telephoto lens to your kit, consider buying now.
