From Nikon:

Consumers with Great Stories Invited to Share Photos Using #IAmNextContest for a Chance to Win a Nikon Camera and be Featured as the Next Voice of Generation Image

MELVILLE, NY – Today, Nikon Inc. has announced the #IAmNextContest to search for the next passionate individual to share their story for a chance to be featured as the next representative of Generation Image. This contest is the latest component of the “I Am Generation Image” integrated campaign, Nikon’s platform to amplify the voices of individuals who want to stand out in a world of visual noise. In addition to being featured among seven others on Iamgenerationimage.com, the crowd-sourced winner will receive a complete Nikon D750 camera system, and a platform to tell their story to the world.

“Each and every one of us shares more visual content than ever before, and we all have amazing stories to share; but with all of this visual noise, it’s easy for our images and their intent to get lost. With this contest we want to invite more people to share what they are passionate about with the world and be heard,” said Lisa Baxt, Associate General Manager of Communications, Nikon Inc.

#IamNextContest
Whether it’s family, a project, a hobby or a charitable cause, we all have something we want to share far beyond our immediate social networks. Starting today, all members of Generation Image are encouraged to upload their photos or videos to either Twitter or Instagram using the hashtag #IAmNextContest. This is a chance for these individuals to reveal to the world what they are passionate about, and have their message reach further than ever before. The submission period will close on March 3, 2015, and finalists will be announced in late March 2015. From these finalists, the community will vote for the winner whose story needs to be shared.

The winner will receive the same full-featured camera kit used by the other individuals representing Generation Image and will be invited to become a part of the campaign. Along with the acclaimed Nikon D750 DSLR camera, the winner will get a full complement of lenses and accessories, including the AF-S NIKKOR 24-120mm f/4 VR, AF-S NIKKOR 50mm f/1.8G ED and telephoto AF-S NIKKOR 70-200mm f/4 VR lenses, to ensure that their images are captured with maximum clarity and fidelity. The winner will also have an opportunity to be featured prominently on the IAmGenerationImage web site, which is an immersive portal celebrating this generation as the first to overwhelmingly express themselves through images on a global scale.

The Venus 60mm f/2.8 2X Ultra Macro Lens is now available for purchase through eBay.

About the Venus 60mm f/2.8 2X Ultra Macro Lens:

Venus Optics, a new Chinese manufacturer of camera lenses, has unveiled the world’s first 60mm f/2.8 2X Ultra-Macro lens, with focusing range from 18.5mm to infinity.

The new Venus 60mm f/2.8 Macro lens features a magnification range from 0.1x to 2x. Users could easily alter the magnification ratio without installing any extension tube or teleconverter, making it ideally suited for rapidly changing macro photography scenarios. This wide magnification range also makes it extremely useful for shooting macro objects (e.g. insects) with different sizes. Moreover, the lens is also designed for normal shooting purposes with a 60mm focal length, which provides an all-in-one solution for normal portrait shooting as well as ultra-macro photography.

The lens houses with 9 elements in 7 groups patented optical structure to provide great deal of image clarity and color rendering. The optical system consists of 2 major moving lenses groups in order to minimize the barrel distortion. 14 pieces of aperture blades form a close-to-circular aperture, capable of creating creamy shallow depth of view. The enclosure of the lens is made of metal to strengthen its durability. A complimentary lens pouch and filter are included in the package. Canon EF, Nikon F, Sony Alpha and Pentax K mount are available.

Over the years I've delivered countless photos to clients via CD, DVD, flash drive as well as cloud storage (DropBox, Copy) – but rarely have I delivered prints. For all of those methods outside of prints, delivery of digital images can seem like a sterile and impersonal process.

One way I combat this perception is to deliver CDs/DVDs that feature Lightscribe labeling. I prefer Lightscribe to printed labels because they are more durable and eye-catching. As the label is actually burned into the disk, it can't get smudged. And the label has a wonderful luminescent, almost holographic look to it. My clients love their custom Lightscribe discs.

After having shot a few wedding this past summer (not something I normally do), I realized that a flash drive was the easiest method of delivery for 1000s of full-resolution images. But handing over a flash drive is unexciting and impersonal, to say the least. I wanted to find a way to provide a small "wow" factor when delivering flash drives.

A few weeks ago I ran across a wonderful product – a Custom Made Wax Seal Stamp. In our modern, digital age, a wax seal looked like the wonderfully elegant and timeless solution I was looking for.

I created a 3 cm, 800 dpi template in Photoshop and designed a black and white (not greyscale) logo to be used on the wax seal. Here's what I came up with:

Sean Setters Photography Wax Seal

The total after shipping was around $27.00. Not cheap, but not unreasonable for a custom manufactured product. The seal stamp would arrive a couple of weeks later.

In the meantime, I looked for various seal waxes I could use with my seal stamp. There are definitely inexpensive options available, but I decided to try out the more convenient Glue Gun Sealing Wax Sticks. They're more expensive, but in my opinion, the convenience is worth the extra cost.

I put together a sample delivery box after receiving my seal stamp and wax (shown atop this post). Final impressions? I love it! This is a unique and personal way to promote my photography business. No one else has a seal stamp like mine.

If $27.00 seems like a lot for this type of thing, you might also consider looking at the less unique (but significantly less expensive) monogram seal stamps.

Of course, there are countless other ways to help differentiate your photography services from your competitors when delivering images. This just happens to be one of my new favorite techniques. :-)

by Sean Setters

I decided to attend the opening day of Imaging USA 2015 this past Sunday. I had never been to the event promoted as "...the largest annual convention and expo organized by pro photographers, for pro photographers" so I was eager to see what it had to offer.

This year's event was held in the beautiful and usually spacious Gaylord Opryland Resort & Convention Center. I say "usually spacious" because just about any event venue will become a bit crowded with approximately 15,000 people moving about.

I originally intended on shooting a few video interviews while I was at the event. I packed my EOS 7D Mark II, EF-S 24mm f/2.8 STM, EF 40mm f/2.8 STM and a couple of external audio recorders into a small Tamrac bag. I also brought my tripod to complete the single-operator interview setup.

Unfortunately, the event proved to be too crowded, too cramped and too noisy for me to capture the interviews I wanted to get (I tried a couple but was unsatisfied with the results). Therefore, you'll simply find some images I took using the 7D II + EF-S 24mm throughout this post. The image found above illustrates just how crowded the event was. Keep in mind, everything's relative – if attending something like a PhotoPlus Expo, you may have little more than elbow room.

My first stop was the Canon booth, positioned right in front of the entrance leading into the exposition hall. Canon had one of the largest booths and they had a lot of great gear and presenters on hand to keep you entertained and informed. In addition to the super telephotos they had available to test out, they also had the hard-to-find EF 400mm f/4 DO IS II USM on hand so that visitors could get a first glimpse of Canon's newest big white lens offering (under close supervision, of course).

Imaging USA 2015 Canon Booth EF 400mm DO IS II USM

My first impressions? It's very well built and AF locks on very quickly. If this lens's MTF charts are any indication of the IQ that's possible, this is going to be a very popular lens for those who don't want to carry the DO lens's f/2.8 (non-DO) big brother (a difference of almost 4 lbs).

Along with the various gear Canon had brought to the show, they were also hosting various pro photographer presentations and conducting a Live Learning session in the back of the booth.

One part of the booth I found particularly interesting was the Canon Professional Services section. As a service to (Gold and Platinum) CPS members, pros could have their Canon DSLRs cleaned for free at the show. And not only that, you could actually watch the CPS techs clean the bodies right in front of you.

Imaging USA 2015 Canon Booth CPS Cleaning

Another stop high on my list was the Tamron booth. Their new SP 15-30mm F/2.8 Di VC USD had just started shipping a couple of days before the show and I wanted to get my hands on the lens.

Upon picking up the lens to mount it to my gripped 7D II, I was actually surprised by the beefiness of the lens. It's actually quite heavy. I had seen the specs, but actually holding the lens in your hand puts those specs into perspective. That said, I don't think it's inconveniently large and heavy and it balances fairly well on a gripped DSLR body. But if you're looking for small, light and inconspicuous wide-angle lens....this won't be it. Also, the zoom ring was a little stiffer than most of my other lenses. It wasn't a bad thing, just noticeably different.

Imaging USA 2015 Tamron 15 30 f2.8 VC

I did take a few images with it, but I didn't shoot enough with it to get a good sense of how it would perform in the real world. I think Bryan's full-review will be the best reference when it comes to this lens's performance (when the review becomes available, of course).

Another stop that was on the top of my priority list was the LensRentals booth. There, they had a Freefly Movi M5 set up and available for testing (and that was lots of fun). I was also fortunate enough to meet and talk with Roger Cicala, a friend of the site and a guy I admire greatly. His LensRentals blog is always an informative and entertaining read – I highly suggest checking it out if you aren't in the habit of doing so already. One of his latest posts featuring eccentric Sidney Cotton was especially interesting.

After walking the exposition floor for several hours, I was exhausted but I'd had great time. If you ever get a chance to attend an Imaging USA event, don't hesitate to do so. Even if all you do is walk around the exposition floor, it'll be well worth your time. This years event runs through this evening (with the Exhibition Hall opening at 11:30am Central Time).

The good news? The Canon EOS-1D X's MSRP dropped by $800.00 in February – it's now only $5,999.00 from authorized retailers.

The bad news? That is the same price as the after-rebate price from last month, but the 1D X is not included in the current round of rebates.

Image quality results from the EOS 7D Mark II have been added to the Canon EF 24mm f/2.8 IS USM Lens review.

This is a great little lens that holds up to the high resolution sensor of the 7D II. Image stabilization is a key additional reason to choose this lens.

B&H has the Canon EF 24mm f/2.8 IS USM Lens in stock.
