Canon Inc. has released Digital Photo Professional version 3.11.26 for download. Unfortunately for many of us, it is the Japanese version. Navigate the menu to get to the proper download page - then look for the red arrow button to download the update.

This update should correct the soft conversion problem with Canon EOS 5D Mark III RAW images and hopefully corrects the same problem with Canon PowerShot G1 X RAW images.

I expect the English version to show up very soon.

From Manfrotto:

Hybrid HDSLR cameras and ever-smaller pro camcorders are changing videography dramatically; yet along with the obvious advantages and opportunities presented by smaller, lighter cameras, come new problems to solve: as ENG camera operators use smaller cameras, and photographers are expected to shoot broadcast-quality video footage on their HDSLRs, both groups are finding that their camera equipment doesn’t have the ergonomic form for steady shoulder-mounted or hand-held footage; nor the attachment points for monitors, batteries, light-modifiers or accessories; nor the inherent weight that helps minimise camera shake. SYMPLA is Manfrotto’s solution to those problems: a professional modular video rig system that extends and complements new cameras, allows for stable support and framing, supports essential accessories features, offering versatility and high performance as well as comfort, safety and much simpler and faster set up than existing rigs.

SYMPLA is built for flexibility and speed, so you can change anything and everything easily and quickly: hand grip positions, counterbalance, camera body, lens, accessories, filters, light-shielding angle; shoulder-supported, hand-held, or tripod/monopod-mounted… whatever you need to get the shot, the second you need it. SYMPLA is quick to fine-tune, so even when you need to make changes to your rig on-location and mid-shoot, SYMPLA’s minimal locks and tool-free adjusters will let you get back to shooting quickly. Thanks to our revolutionary camera remotes which fit the rig handgrips, SYMPLA allows precise fingertip control of framing and camera functions without losing the grip position and keeping your eyes on the frame, helping you capture stable, usable, creative footage. And SYMPLA can quickly be extended: whether you start from one of our kits, or from single components, you can build the exact rig you need for the shot, as soon as you need it.

Canon, Inc. has issued a similar Canon EOS 5D Mark III service notice (Google translation).

Canon, Inc. adds that a "dark environment" is likely to be:

1. If you have installed the body cap

2. If you attach the lens cap

I've been asked if I am going to send my 5D III in for service. My answer was probably, but mostly for resale purposes. But I will not likely send it in anytime soon.

Canon USA has issued a service notice for the Canon EOS 5D Mark III Digital SLR Camera.

To Users of the Canon EOS 5D Mark III Digital SLR Camera

Thank you for using Canon products.

The phenomenon described below has been confirmed when using the Canon EOS 5D Mark III Digital SLR Camera. Canon is now examining the countermeasures and once the countermeasures are decided, we will post the information on our Web site.

Phenomenon

In extremely dark environments, if the LCD panel illuminates, the displayed exposure value may change as a result of the AE sensor’s detection of light from the LCD panel.

Affected Product

Canon EOS 5D Mark III Digital SLR Camera

Support

Once the preparations are complete, we will be making an announcement on our Web site.

This service notice is addressing a 5D III anomaly being referred to as the "light leak".

Finding a real world situation where the "light leak" anomaly causes a problem is not easy - I have not encountered any - even when I tried to do so. And, I'm probably using manual exposures if shooting in situations this dark.

Turning off the top LCD panel illumination before metering is the easy workaround (and possibly covering the top LCD if the light source is external).

The EOS 5D III is very difficult to find in stock right now. Preorders are being taken by most of the retailers listed on the site including B&H.

Though somewhat hard to believe, Adorama *appears* to have both the Canon EOS 5D Mark III Body and Lens Kit in stock. The usual "New item available for pre-order. You may place this on order now a..." or similar notation is not present for the 5D III listings. Backing up the in stock status premise is that Adorama has 5D III bodies and kits both listed on eBay.

Here are Adorama's 5D III eBay listings - "More than 10 available".

Canon EOS 5D Mark III Camera bodies and kits are also available from other sellers on eBay.

Update: OneCall.com has the Canon EOS 5D Mark III with EF 24-105mm f/4 L IS USM Lens in stock.

A new configuration option is now available on the site - allowing you to optionally exclude deals from the Canon News, Nikon News & What's New Sidebar.

The News sidebar appears on the right side on most pages on the site. A small on/off button in the titlebar of that sidebar allows deals to be included or excluded as you desire.

Now I have to find some deals to post so you can try out the new feature.

Canon USA has issued an update regarding the just-announced Canon Cinema EOS C500/C500 PL 4K Digital Cinematography Camera:

Further details regarding the Cinema EOS C500/C500 PL digital cinematography cameras – including specifications and pricing – have yet to be decided, although preliminary plans are for a suggested list price of approximately $30,000†.

Plans also call for these new products to be launched later this year. In addition to targeting a swift launch of these cameras, Canon will continue to enhance other components of its Cinema EOS System product lineup, which is designed to contribute to the continued advancement of tools for visual expression and the development of cinematic culture.

Additionally, the prototype of the Cinema EOS C500 digital cinematography camera that will be on display at the 2012 NAB Show in the Canon booth, C4325, will be the EF-mount version only.

† Availability, prices, and specifications of all products are subject to change without notice. Actual prices are set by individual dealers and may vary.

From Datacolor:

Join us for a webinar on Advanced Studio Display Calibration

Many photographers encounter issues in calibrating color and luminance of their displays for studio use causing them to spend countless hours editing images and wasting paper to produce accurate images. In this webinar, you'll learn advanced techniques for accurate calibration and consistent viewing in your studio and other workspaces. This includes matching several displays in a work area or in a workgroup/collaborative team. The results will be saved time and money, and images that look the way they did when you shot them.

On Wednesday, April 18th from 3 pm – 4 pm EDT, join us as Datacolor Color Management Experts, David Tobie and David Saffir discuss the issues photographers encounter when calibrating displays for use in photo studios and related workspaces, including solutions for ambient light issues, Studio Calibration Standards, and Side-by-Side tuning of displays for visual matching. Webinar content will also include adjusting laptops to better match desktop displays, which is particularly useful if one is reviewing or editing images in the field, or shooting tethered to a camera.
